It has M/S, which the UAD version does not. I know the hardware doesn't do that, but it always was disappointing that the UAD plugin costs what it does and they couldn't have included that capability. They added features to the Vari-Mu and VoxBox, so it isn't like they weren't thinking of useful additions. The UAD version does sound good on bus duties. I could try this one, but I'm not sure I need to go there. I felt the same with their Vari-Mu. If you're not a UAD2 user then I think it's worth adding to your collection. Both the comp and EQ are really clean and helpful. You can always use DDMF meta for M/S

The UAD Manley VariMu does add some brightness. I kind of got away from it on the master for a bit. Started to work it back in though. Been using the API 2500 with the mix about half way. It’s like the Manley adds a sheen and the 2500 adds a little more punch. I def like using the Manley in M/S to add a little more width. I played with the Pulsar very briefly before. Need to try again.

Before I got my hardware Thermionic tube EQ I often used the UAD MMP.
There was an online ABX run by the Pro Tools Expert people IIRC.
Anyway, I honestly couldn’t tell the difference on that particular test between the hardware and the UAD plugin, I noticed in the poll neither could a lot of folk.
I thought wow impressive and bought it, I think i paid full price at the time!!
I find it hard to believe this new Pulsar plugin is a more faithful emulation, but it might well be different which might be a good or bad thing?
I like their 1178 so I’ll have to find the time to demo this new emulation.

I haven't tried the Massive yet, but there's no reason it can't beat the UAD.

It doesn't need beating for me - I'm lovin' the UAD version as to my ears it captures what I love about the hardware - though now I use my Thermionic Swift stereo Tube EQ. I didn't care for the UAD Manley Vari Mu - but that's because I don't care for the hardware either. I'm sure you'll love the Pulsar MMP though :-)

They are running a sale on the Massive that includes their Lexi 480 for free.
How have people found the Pulsar Massive and the 480?

My friend Jameson pointed out that using width on the master buss can tie your hands when there are so many wideners you can just put across a bus ITB. That said, I don't know what aspect ratio is really doing on the Silver Bullet plugin, but I'm using on my masters and digging it. More stunt width stuff still happens on a separate bus. (Synths, delays, that kind of thing. OHs once in a while.)
