Just tracked a remote voice over session and brought an SA47, 1073EQ and SA76+. Turned out the script was a back and forth but I had a spare 414B/ULS so I patched it through the 1073EQ and 76+, with the SA47 going straight into the Carbon pre. Pulling the tube stage knob immediately rounded the top end matching it better to the tube 47, very nice.

Just a note that won't matter to most: the regular, non-tube output adds about 5 dB of noise. The tube output adds another 5 dB for a total of ~10 dB of noise on the tube output. The tube noise is not smooth...rather irritating.
Probably not much of a problem for most, but just wanted to let folks know. I doubt anyone is going to be putting distant micing sources through a 76 :-}
I have waaaay newer compression circuits that hit ~5 dB of noise on the same tracks. The tube adding more is to be expected.

How are these now one year+ later? Are they still getting as much play? I'm trying to determine if it's the right compressor for me

Noise is always a problem. It accumulates, just like the low mid/mud that you alluded to in another thread. We need solutions to these problems

This has been addressed with extra shield on the new ones on the output transformer (carnhill) I am pretty sure we can retrofit MK1’s with it

I have mu-metal tape that I've used on other audio gear to reduce noise. If it's just a matter of covering the transformer, I'll give it a shot. If not, do I need to send it to the regional Stam fix-it shop? -- for me, it's in Connecticut.
