Well music is always changing, evolving, morphing, meshing, etc... Some genres more frequent than others. To me its simple, you don't like it, don't listen to it. Bitching about it doesn't do anything. The whole "it sounds the same" is the same thing they said when rock and roll started emerging, the van halen era, disco, grunge, punk, and so on. Seems to me the country soundscape is changing dramatically compared to the past and the past generation doesn't like it. Well tough, be it money or taste changing, it's happening. Whether the trend will last or die off, we'll just have to wait and see. There will be good music that come out of this era like all other eras I mentioned, so just enjoy the good ones and ignore the ones you don't like as usual. We might even see something innovative. Oh, I'm sure in 20 years there'll be a new form that will get bitched about again :/

it also sounds like the same 10 studio cats played on every record in country. Six. I keed, I keed. Modern, bro country ain't my thing, but a lot of those little clips sounded sonically nice. Wouldn't want to hear very many of those songs in their entirety probably, and a bunch of them back to back would be agony, but some of those little snippets were at least sonically ok in those very small doses. I'm guessing they're as smashed as anything else though? Cheers, Geoff

From pop-country to bro-country. it all sounds like non-country to me.

It's blatantly generic, with an exaggerated "country' accent. I think that's what's bugging people. If people like McDonalds and Burger King, hamburgers, it's their prerogative, just please don't keep trying to convince me it's good.
What's annoys me sometimes, is how self important some of these guys are. I can enjoy anyone's success and wish them well, as long as they're not being an asshole.

Just because I can't STAND this crap doesn't make me washed up. In fact, I'm doing pretty damn good. I don't like rap, but I respect a lot of it. I don't like NASCAR, but it takes talent. I don't like Obama, but I'm sure the guy is trying. (Maybe)...I think it's incredibly dismissive to just write people off because they have a contrary opinion. And honestly...if you think that link is good...then maybe that explains your position.

Who said anything about washed up??? My point was about change/trends, it's inevitable. Like it or not, music will morph, no sense bitching about it. And maybe you're right, it will die off, but think they said the same about electronic and rap and it's still around. And I'm not writing people off, it seems someone took a lot of time to compile that video for the sole purpose of ridicule. There were many songs in "2013" that didn't talk about truck, gettin drunk, and used the word girl. Do I like some of the new country, sure, do I hate some of the new country, damn right. But I'm not going to bitch about it, no point. I'm just sick of all the whining and bitching I hear. Like Maya Angelou said, if you don't like something, change it, if you can't change it, change your attitude.

Well, my friend, what you're saying just comes off a little condescending to me. You also have the ability to choose not read the "bitching." There have ALWAYS been shitty songs. Always. I've written my share. (I'd like to think I learned from it) The difference is that the shitty songs now dominate the genre. So, until that stops, I will continue writing the songs I write and continue to point out when something is absolutely terrible. This isn't a "taste" thing - this is maintaining a level of integrity and credibility. And I see you're quoting Maya Angelou and not Luke Bryan...There's a reason for that.

I think the link is good because it paints an accurate picture with some humor. Makes me think back to hair metal days. It seemed like it would never end and along came Nirvana and it was over in a day.
I like how music changes but though I misread the intent in another thread, I do understand the repetitiveness. It's an interesting time in music, for sure.

I guess it did come out kind of patronizing, I just keep hearing it and just think jeez if you don't like it, don't listen, not hard. And I can agree about the shittiness of songs, but I think it's also taste, what's shitty to you, is a gem to others. I for one don't like a particular Luke Bryan song about a country girl shakin' it for the squirrels, but there are some who do, whatever floats their boat. That's as close as I'll get to a Luke Bryan quote And @heartfelt, hair metal's not dead, apparently you haven't heard of Steel Panther

See, I objectively think that's a bad song...Is everything in music subjective? If so - everyone gets a trophy...But maybe I'm being a song Nazi...

I hope the pendulum has swung as far toward shit as it has to go before heading back to quality.

No one can say Bohemian Rhapsody sucks. It's an example of quality. Yesterday is good, period. Problem is the same can't be said for crap. I can't think of one song where everyone would agree it's crap.

Girl, let's take a sip in my truck You know you want my stuff One arm on the wheel Cruising down this dirt road
The sun is setting low To the creek bank we shall go I'll lay you down like Conway Take your panties off with my teeth like T Pain
Now all I hear is critters Got me takin the jitters Gonna scoop you up Set you on the gate of my truck Slide it in then I'll take a swim While drinking from my Dixie cup
Now girl that felt so nice I wanna do this every night I'll take you home while the moon is low Tuck you in nice and tight
I'll spend the day on my daddy's couch In my underwear like a slouch Because I'm unemployed and can't find a job This billfold chain makes me look like a slob
Repeat chorus
...........
Now tell me fellas, what artist wouldn't want to write with me?? Above is a perfect example of how to write a number one song in less than three minutes. Hell, at this rate, I could cowrite probably 20 or 30 a day. I'm a machine!!!!!! Hey!!!!! Over here Nashville!!!!!! I'm right here!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think art in general is subjective. How many times have you seen a movie that you thought was crap and someone thought was good. Then you argue why it's good or bad, when in reality you're both right. It's all opinion, so no one will win the argument. Same applies to music, it's all opinion, so no one will win the argument. And henge, bohemian rhapsody is actually a great example. My mom loves that song, I love it, my sister loves it, but my dad... Nope, not his cup of tea. To him it's crap, to us it's a gem . Which got me thinking, when I was younger when he would boast about Andy Williams and Sinatra, I thought whatever Dad, these guys suck. As I got older and more open minded, they stopped sucking . I think part of my problem was rebellion, didn't want to like the same music my dad liked. I'm wondering if the new country everyone hates just needs time until it's finally accepted, kinda like an acquired taste I guess haha. Or you guys are right and it'll just die a miserable death haha. I wouldn't get too worked up about it though, because something new will always come a long and this argument will continue. Its crap!, it's great! To which I'll answer you're both right.

warren I could poop in a bag and call it art? The criticism is warranted, This stuff is actually very clearly less thoughtful than even that, I guess by today's standard, picking up a box of Oreos at the store is buying art, it is after all formulated, processed, focus grouped, manufactured and sold in mass, just like the examples on this thread, the only thing missing is the fat people riding sloth wagons through the 7-11, with abig gulp in the drink holder and a cotton candy in their free hand I come from a time and place where being "good" and having the sense to not embarrass urself was important, maybe I'm out dated, but I'd quit music before ud catch me dead performing with one of these frauds, u could not pay me enough $! as always jmo
