I kind of know what you mean, Dan. What's good about Slate is what's bad about it to me. I think KPOP / JROCK whatever you call it, that wall of sound "I can't hear the music, I can't hear anything" production aesthetic, would be catered by Slate also. Flatline/freeze all dynamics, scoop all tones, bury the effects so deep you can't even hear them, remove all human touch, and then just make it really loud with zero crest factor. Those three PA plugins you mentioned, two of the three are also, on point, "not for me." But I love the Lindell 50 / API to me it sounds "Old school." However I love the UAD Distressor / EL Arousor, which both are completely different sounds, by the way. The Neold stuff is so different it's kind of crazy. SSL 9000 J is as good as everyone says it is. I wonder if the long tail of this development is like the AIR / AKAI thing. Old code that goes from one brand to the next, then to some obscure web store to die at $9 per plug on Christmas. But hey, we're still using Spitfish. Jrock/kpop just copied that aesthetic. It's pretty funny that that aesthetic took over most of metal and modern rock. It's kinda like how glam metal took over arena rock and then country copied those aesthetics VERBATIM. Then you just have totaly weirdness like a bunch of mainstream artists in the 90s using the same Alesis kick sample as Megadeth and Dissection. That was Slate before Slate but distressors hadn't been invented then so it's not as distorted. Some of the older NB / CM and top end metal stuff is extremely well produced (Dimmu, COF, In Flames), I anecdotally heard years back that In Flames had well over a hundred thousand Euro's invested in equipment and all (or mostly) had day jobs to supplement it. That sorta thing is pretty rare nowadays and irrelevant of whether or not I liked the bands themselves they for sure sounded different. The point I'm alluding to is JRock is pretty cool in terms of diversity, you can have a high production media release alongside a soundtrack smorgasbord. Some of it is obviously high budget but the next track will sound like a random lo-fi bedroom production, some don't bother with stuff like autotune and unless you're one of those rare(ish) golden type robotic singers it really does show. However the genre's seem to be more about the music than outright perfection which allows for many styles to work in uniformity. That's pretty cool, it keeps stuff interesting and it's how metal used to roll when budgets were a thing. I still think rock / metal in general leans towards analogue, you need a lot of depth and width. Sure UA's curve bender and some M/S ITB tools can take you down the path but I've never been able to recreate certain production methodology's without outboard and a desk. For most of it though it really doesn't matter..

Ampeg SVT-3 is "Oh yeah, big bottom, fat mids." Gallien Kruger is, "Meh, kind of thin, I guess that's neat."

whoops! my bad. I wonder how long this deal will cruise until the "house" (dealer) changes the rules... this is a good one.

When I was a kid and knew nuthin about nuthin, my band occasionally played shows with some good quality pop punk bands. They all had this GK “ mid sproing” thing going on with their busy bass parts and I always thought it made the bass sound like a different instrument. Picked up the brainworx version last year and had that sound dialed in about 15 seconds. It actually made me play differently which is a neat trick.

It looks like they quietly disabled the 20% off code. I tried to use it for Townhouse and it came back as invalid.

"we're being watched." but that's ok, a slap on the wrist, new restrictions, it's all part of the game.

If anybody got on this with multiple accounts back when it first dropped, they finally offered the no minimum spend $20 vouchers again, which can be used to do one license transfer for free or a couple transfers for $12. Not bad.
I now have the "loophole" MC77 and Black Box M/S that I got for free transferred to my main account.
