I have a pair of old AKG 451s...the real ones. They sound nice. Anyone here interested? Looking for 1200 shipped.

how close do the capsules sound to each other? can you use them as a stereo pair? I ask because I have a 3 452's - 2 with ck1 and one with a ck28. One of the ck1's is painfully bright, the other is really nice and just slightly "shiny" and the ck28 is very similar to the good ck1 but sweeter and smoother. I'd love a pair of good sounding ck1's that worked as a pair.

I'd love a pair of good sounding ck1's that worked as a pair. I only used these in stereo a couple of times. My peasants ear did not detect any strange a-ha moments. The studio I bought these from used them in stereo quite frequently (and the dude was no dummy - when you're in a Bill Putnam designed room, you can hear these sorts of things). Tom Ware, the owner, wasn't a dude afraid to call out stuff like that. He said they were good on overheads but got most of their use on classical arrangements. I used them a few times (acoustic guitar, vocals, hand drums, rooms, just playing around) and found them bright in general, to be sure. They just never really beat my Gefells as "the" stereo pair.
