And what does it say about "Today's Music"? (Drops Mic) Chris That wasn’t today’s music. That was from 20 years ago. One of the really cool parts is how a lot of that stuff was put together by a young Mike Elizondo. Young upright jazz trained bass player that wrote incredible hooks for most of dr dre’s songs. He came up to be one of the most in demand session players and producers in La. check out his credits. I thought it was fun

Folks who aren't fans of hip hop often are unaware of the badass players that are allowed to run wild on some of that stuff. That was me until a couple of years ago.

I thought it was great. They had a lot of faces from the golden era of hip hop, plus Kendrick Lamar and Anderson Paak representing the newer generation.

Chris made a typo in the subject line. Half Time "SO" Show. Superb Owl.
Jokes aside, I kind of forgot it was happening and was wondering why the grocery parking lot was so packed. I definitely missed the halftime show, but it's one of those lineups that I'd worry that watching it now would make me feel like the magic isn't there anymore, and that with the passing of time, my own mortality is creeping up on me...
Though from what little bit I heard with the morning talk radio, it sounds like it was a really good show.

I might look on the YoubieToobs later. I couldn't care less about the sportball, but the entertainment part sounds cool.

It was a very good show, including a giant prop console for Dre.

I dug it. Thought it was good and entertaining. Not too flashy, not to outrageous, not to scandalous. Solid live performances. One of the best half times I've seen for certain.
I did wonder if they had originally planned on doing projection mapping on all the white surfaces but they forgot that the roof was translucent and it would still be day time basically on the west coast. So the lighting was a bit underwhelming and all the white props a bit boring. Or maybe I missed something? Idk. Seemed like ideal props for projection mapping.

I watched. Never was a big hip-hop or rap fan, but I didn't dislike it either.
Seemed ok, but I'll never get the rehash stuff. You'd think they'd come up with something original for such a big venue.

Snoop Dog opened singing so far behind the beat I thought there was something technically wrong. Nope. He’s just that “relaxed.”

I took it as an improvement when all the girl dancers didn’t have to dress like a strip club. Feels so dirty when you know all the girls just want to dance and they are forced to be practically naked just to have a career. So I enjoyed that aspect, was kinda like saying the music is actually what it’s about

I’m not sure how many mics we’re actually live, the old rule was 2 max live inputs at any given time, everything else is Hard disk. I’ll admit I kept wondering why the set designer didn’t just have ATK / now Clair just grab 2 boards from the wharehouse instead of the set piece.

I'm surprised they didn't just get a dozen SSL BiG 6's and strap them together - product placement and an homage to The 100 channel SSL Dre used for years at Record One. I thought halftime was great and was only a bit horrified by how old 50 Cent looked. I hadn't seen him in awhile whereas Snoop, Dre. etc. are always around (I saw Dre at the beach in Malibu a couple of years ago - he was training with a guy and looked like he could be in the NFL he was jacked)

I thought it was great!
So much impossible hype, explosions and all that crap. Lot of fun to watch.
I'm not much of a rap-head but you can't deny some of these legends.
Maybe I'll send a letter to NFL to see if we can get Pat Metheny at the next Super Bowl. Now that would piss off average people!
I also enjoyed the game. I guess I found out how to watch football. I never used to be able to care about it. I'll watch again next year.

I think this thread belongs in off-topic, but it's a valuable thread to have.
I must go watch the sport ball half time show now.

Must be in the minority here. The network sound was somewhat poor that you really couldn't understand the majority of the rappers, which were the main attraction (except for 1 vocalist - Mary Blige), & the recorded tracks.

Bad mix lessened the impact. Couldn't catch most of the words. It was fun, but personally I didn't find the music very memorable. I'll always be a music first guy. You can't forget Prince singing Purple Rain can you. I can't remember shit from that show, except the Eminem track had a good beat, and the piano playing was interesting for a minute because it was abstract.

The mix was pretty bad for sure which definitely was a shame
My wife saw a post that said “50 Cent looked more like $1 due to inflation” 🤣

I was a freshman in college when this stuff was everywhere. If You’re + or - 6 or so years from there you knew every word. Doesn’t even matter if you were into that music or not - it was everywhere for that generation. For the most part, the mix doesn’t matter, it’s a Super Bowl halftime show.
To be honest, I’ll take it any day over watching the stones at 80 years old playing what resembles Satisfaction.

Sounds about right - they had lots of closeups and I rewound a few times. Snoop & Dre definitely live the whole time, Mary playback for her 1st number with choreography but live for her 2nd number, 50 probably playback, Kendrick live, Em live but with multiple backing doubles on playback as per usual for him.
I thought it was great. Nothing earth shattering, but well done and totally appropriate for the venue and crowd.
Edit - 50 is live over playback, and fairly terrible
