Had a great one I was close with but he started using again, so his reliability has gone out the window.
Curious what unknown geniuses are kicking around other towns? I’d love a 2203 clone or maybe a jmp.
Got someone you’d recommend?

He repairs and sells amps occasionally too. His work is pretty detail oriented but if he even wants to do something like this he probably won't be cheap and he tends to work at his own pace. |

Wouldn't say unknown, but less known is my pal JP aka Henry amps. Also an ex-engineer producer guy with some legit credits. He probably won't build a straight JMP/800 klone... not really his thing but he'll do his take on that style and can probably tweak/add to fit your specific desires. www.henryamps.com/pasadena-roseHe's local to me in northern NJ. Yeah that Pasadena Rose looks like a great idea.
JMP superlead to 2203 stylings and beyond.
I think it should be called Altadena-Rose.
That’s where the Van Halen’s lived.
David Lee Roth was from Pasadena.

Ceriatone has a good range. He has been doing it a while. Ceriatone puts together a fine amp. Not sure I'd call them a "custom builder" though... Anyway. They currently have a nearly 1 year backorder. Friend of mine ordered an amp from them last year... summer 2021 and I think he was 8-10 months at that point. He should be getting close? |

Before looking for a custom builder, why not look at boutique companies that have similar amps? Friedman would be the top of the list, but even Dr. Z has their EMS, as well as their 6V6 plexi take with the Remedy.

i think i was hoping for someone a little less well known that might be hiding out there. i went ahead and put a deposit down on a Ceriatone HW 2202.
thanks for the ideas, folks. very curious about 6V6 amps, so i'm gonna look into that dr Z model

Where are you located as more options may come depending on where you are - ideally you'd want to play it as it's being tuned.

I got to hear the Hendyamps guitar amps with my own two ears last weekend and was genuinely impressed. He can pretty much make any tone you want from what I can tell!
