A local guy is selling a pair: one works, the other doesn’t: what would they be worth ? The working one may be stock.

Are they the original ones of the SE model they sell now? They are pretty well regarded mono blocks. $500-$700 for a working on? I'm not sure how easily they are repaired.

I think originals.
The one that doesn’t work was supposedly fixed by someone with adcom knowledge and is described as :
]So, I acquired these in a trade some months ago. One is good, the other was apparently repaired by an Adcom Tech. I can't vouch for that, but the one amp that was "repaired" has issues. The DC fluctuates and when turned off, it moves the woofer out on its suspension, and slowly back to resting position as the caps discharge. The one amp seems to be just fine. The one should have the driver board replaced to bring it back into spec, a very well know fault with these amps. Assembled boards are available in the USA, $368 USD.”

I’m not sure if the 565 is based on the original or the ii, give JW a shout for clarification. An Amp with issues always scares me and I owned racks full of Flame linear! ( to think it was 15 years after I ended up on fire). My highest offer would be 70 percent of what the last pair sold for on eBay before shipping. I would only offer if they are based on the original 555, even then I would probably go for 555, the fact that you can run it stereo or bridge it, yet I’m the guy who in 37 degree weather is heating the apt. With the BEL 2002, all that class A heat! Seriously I don’t have the furnace on.

He’s had a tech doing something and he’s bailing, so that doesn’t inspire confidence.
JW is great but shipping a heavy pre there and back would cost more the the value of the pre plus Jim’s fee and there’d be no point having him fix/upgrade just one.

I always worry when someone has a “tech” that can’t seam to solve a problem. I mentioned JW more to confirm the 565 is based on the original not the ii or something different.

The thing with Adcom revisions is they all seamed to be about making it cheaper and easier to build. Give me the original 555 rack mount any day.

I have read the original designs were best.

The GFA-565 is a transistor design like the 535/545/555

The GFA-565 is a transistor design like the 535/545/555 Hey Sean Adcom never ventured into tubes, all there stuff is SS, the 5x5 series was originally designed by the Legendary Nelson Pass of Thershold and Pass labs. What gets confusing is Adcom had a bunch of revisions and revivals of the 555, but each of these was more about $ than any improvement ( even MR Pass has noted this).
