What are you guys using in your CAPI EQ's. Mainly for drums and bass guitar. Thanks
Litz seems to be the only one to use. OpAmps have always confused me. They all sound slightly different, but is it splitting hairs? or can you really hear a big difference?
I have good EQ in my classic Focusrite 110's and my RN 5033 EQ's, but I want to add some API flavor to my tracking rack.

I'm using jack s--t because they've been out of stock for so long. Really want to build some VP28s and BT50s.....................

Talk to Jeff nobody has as much of a handle on what the different Opamps bring to the party in these circuits as the man himself.

I sometimes still switch options around around in my Silver Bullet but almost everything else I have that uses op amps I've switched to CAPI CA-0252's. They bring a lot of life and just feel right, especially in my old API 8200A that previously had their 2005 version. My mastering buddy had the same result in his old 5500, the results weren't as subtle as you'd imagine. This doesn't directly answer your question but to me the 0252's are so good I couldn't help myself from interjecting.

I put the CA-0252s in my Silver Bullet as well and it just sounds like a record....

Another vote for the CAPI CA-0252's. I have them in BT50's, VC528's I just acquired used, and 553F's. Just felt solid, smooth and more full to my ears. I also liked them in the Silver Bullet when I had it.
Nice thing with opamps, IMHO, is that supply today aside, when you can find them or build them, they're pretty inexpensive to experiment with in general.

Non litz wire transformers. 1731's in my EQs and 2520's in my preamps.

Anybody tried the Avedis 1122 opamps in any of the CAPI builds? Big fan of the Avedis pre's I have and I wanna build some BT50's soon.

I have 1122 and LTL Rogue 6 in my 5500 for mastering work - they sound great and I prefer the tone over the stock configuration. RE: CAPI EQs Has anyone tried mixing 2 opamps in the same unit? For example a gar1731 + Capi 0252 or Red Dot? I'm interested in a pair of BT50s and have heard a few people mention the 1731 as standouts, others swear by the Red Dots. |
