I've searched extensively on the UAD forum (and elsewhere) and cannot find the answer. I posted on there as well but you guys are often faster and I've got a session today. Here's the issue...
I'm using an Apollo x4 as monitor and a new Apollo x8 as expander. My two ADAT units are a Cranborne 500ADAT and a UA 710D. Here's the problem...
I can get any combination of ADAT and Apollo to work as long as that Apollo unit is set as monitor. However, the "B" unit is not being recognized. In fact, when I open Console Settings and go to Hardware, the B unit doesn't even who any Digital input options. It's not unit specific, because whichever unit is the A/Monitor unit does show the ADAT options.
I'm using an M1 Mac Mini, everything should be up to day (latest firmware etc).
What am I doing wrong?

One additional note... I'm just running optical cables from ADAT out to ADAT in. Should I be running a cable from the Word Clock input?

In your console settings under I/O matrix, how many inputs and outputs do you have setup? Have you hidden anything Menu/View/Show-Hide Inputs? Which DAW are you using?

Which DAW are you using? 55 inputs including virtual, using Studio One. Nothing hidden but the issue is at a level earlier than that I think. See the screenshot I just added. The x8 is not showing ADAT settings.

Wow. ADAT isn't showing as an option at all on the x8. That doesn't make sense. If you switch the units around so that your x8 becomes the "A" unit, do the ADAT settings re-appear on that options screen?

What does your I/O matrix look like?

I'm stumped, especially if the I/O matrix is showing them as active inputs. No signal on the meters in console for those ADAT inputs? Sorry I'm not much help. Just throwing out ideas.

You haven’t hidden the adat channels in console?
There is a drop down for unhiding .

You haven’t hidden the adat channels in console? There is a drop down for unhiding . Nope. I can see them, they just get no signal on one unit. Only the “monitor” unit gets signal.

I think we’d need to see the IO Matrix screen to be able to help

I think we’d need to see the IO Matrix screen to be able to help Here you go... hope this helps. Here's an odd thing though. Kind of good news! I tried the old turn everything off and then on again trick (again) and now I'm seeing levels for both ADAT units as it should be. However, and maybe this is a different problem or maybe not, the sound from the external ADAT units only plays from the Apollo unit it is attached to, that unit needs to be "A"/Monitor. I have an idea... I have both thunderbolt cables going directly into the Mac instead of from one Apollo to the other (due to limited cable lengths), could this be the problem?

I think that was it! Ran to Best Buy and bought a longer TB cable, did a daisy chain setup and boom, good to go.
At least I think so... but so far so good! Thanks for your help guys. I actually got this realization from trying to answer Java's question, so y'all actually helped a lot.

Yes, cus all UA stuff needs to be daisy chained, also for its starclock digital clock to set master and slave .

Just to underline the wisdom of de-powering , waiting a while and powering back up in some instances. Ny internet was down and I waited half a day for possible"maintenance" in the local area . didn't come back so asked my daughter whether it was off at her place and her reply was no , but have you tried the old turn off - wait a while and turn back on trick. felt like a chump 'cause it worked. Cheers, Ross
