I realize that 3 is newer/faster. Will a USB2 device work in a USB3 port? I understand it won't reach 3 speeds. Do ilok-type devices care which type of port they are in? Sorry if it's a dumb question.

USB2 devices will work perfectly well in USB3 slots. ILoks will work in either USB2 or USB3, although there is an issue with recent Macbook Pros. This may be either something in the Mac hardware or in the driver. I do know that PACE and Apple are working on in. The recommendation for now is to use a USB2 hub if you're on a recent Macbook Pro.
