Yeah, it’s supposed to be the same, I believe. Def curious to snag it but I admittedly don’t use dynamics much. Though the Alien 8 lives inside my kick drum! Killer mic

Sorry, I didnt see this until today but yes, the Capsule8 is basically a single capsule Alien8. The capsule is similar to the one in the Alien8 but its a 300 ohm version with no output transformer vs the 2 x 24 ohm capsules with a transformer (boosting up to 480 ohm) in the Alien8. The resulting sound is a little brighter and the transients come through a bit more than the Alien8 in single capsule mode. The Capsule8 seems to work well with similar things to the Alien8, kick drum (in and out) and bass amps and because of its more compact size, I really like it on toms too. Any chance of an A/B of A8 or C8 (fairest) with an M380!
Also, although I own both A8 and C8! Still, I'd love to see some data/plots for some/all of the following:
SPL
FR on axis with varying distances to show proximity effect
FR off axis, i.e., 90 deg nulls

My Alien 8 is killer on my bass drums - used on every session these days !!
DrAlienSmith Dirt mic and Dirt Box getting lots of use here too

I have an Alien 8 that is now my go to for Bass Amp mic. It really sounds great!

Yeah I have been trying to organise a direct comparison to the M380, still working on that. The A8 and C8 have a lot more mid range than the M380 so they will sound quite different. I would also love to get those stats. I've been trying to find somewhere here in Australia with the proper measuring gear but haven't had any success yet. Any one have any leads on Anechoic chambers? |
