Wally Heider told me that Frank liked recording with whatever mike he used at his gigs. I understand all of the Credence hits were recorded mostly with 57s. Presley used an RE-15.

So Presley used an RE-15 . I thought I read on the Devil Purple site you mentioning he used something like the Shure 545 which is pretty much an SM57 . Well as you guys can see not only is it good as a female device , you can also record hit vocals with an SM57 . |

I know that Bob mentioned in another thread that a lot of the "studio" pictures were actually posed with mics that looked good. Those RCA mics sure look good.

Not "shure" if there is any  . But didn't Sun records only have like a handful of mics? A couple of RCAs, Shure 55, and whatever the other ones were. Think they were military surplus too. Anywho, I know there's pictures of him live with the shure 55, just too lazy to google and post them here |

I just picked good examples. There are thousands of pictures from sessions with Elvis (sweaty, shirt off, everyone mid-song) on RCA ribbon mics and 47s and 49s.
Not only do those RCA 44s and 77s look good, they sound fantastic too.

His early RCA records were probably 44s and 77s. I was told about the handheld RE15 independently by Wally Heider, Bill Porter and Norbert Putnam who were all present for many of his sessions but never at the same time. There's no reason not to believe them.

Add this to list of SM57 on Lead Vocals .
All of Anthony Kiedis's vocals on Californication are SM57 .
