Saw the video and I do not get the point of this toy... Is there anything I cannot do with a bunch of other plug ins?

Saw the video and I do not get the point of this toy... Is there anything I cannot do with a bunch of other plug ins? Isn't that the case for every single plugin and equipment out there? I mean, apart from the sound characteristic of the thing, everything is the same of something else.

Yes, for the most of the gear this is true.
Fuse Labs Audio, for example, was a true surprise for me.
The aim is maybe the same, but the tools, surprised me by how they react, sound like a record.
For the most part, you are right. And for the most part I don't need new tools
But there are some tools which shine.
R2 is another tool which surprised these days.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of Fuse as well. But Kush... I would say that their plugins do have an unique vibe. The sonic characteristic is stronger than almost every other plugin manufacturer around. You hear how the man who coded this like his sound. And that's pretty cool imo.

You hear how the man who coded this like his sound. And that's pretty cool imo. It was coded by a contractor just like how Kush hardware is designed by contractors and made by oems. While that’s fine for hardware, it leaves the plugs not updated enough and inefficient. Goldplate was developed by relab and is a cpu hog vs LX480 and Sonsig. The latter sounds so good and the Lx480 comes closer to vintage reverb grain than the UAD. Goldplate is just the most tonally flexible digital plate around but it’s so cpu inefficient, I have never used it on a final project.

All I'm saying is that his plugins has a certain sound that is different enough from other plugins out there.

I agree, think you buy kush as special sonic tools.

I have a few of the preamp sims, they are great plugs, but nothing FLA could not do .... What keeps me away from Kush is that 70s attitude, and maybe that he refused to write an invoice for my tax returns.

What’s the work flow and signal path of the GUI? Silika’s was ridiculous. I understood the Silika workflow pretty quickly. Possibly because I use all the other Kush plugins as well (so my brain speaks the signal flow/workflow language Greg wants his plugins to use). What did you find ridiculous about it? Did you get to try it enough and see how it sounds? Truthfully, I don't use Silika much. I really like Novatron, Deflector, and AR-1. I've used it in my parallel buses, on some drums, and on bass. It didn't completely revolutionize my workflow but I definitely know when I want to reach for it.

Closest thing I’ve found in the box to a blue strip 1176 rev a type of nasty fet comp vibe. The problem is it’s just not a great compressor. It was like a better sounding but less useful Arousor to me in that it sounded like a clipper. It was pretty good on a drum bus but it’s more clipped and pokey sounding than competitors there, eg PSP Fetpressor, Fuse VCL-373, Klanghelm DC8C3, Goodhertz Vulf. I found the GUI confusing and the whole “nailed the analog” marketing off putting when it was really easy to make totally crap out. I demoed it and never used it over Molot GE, which is more flexible and better behaved while still can get down and dirty. Attachments:

The GUI is ugly the sound is lucky 🍀

I mostly use it for the distortion characteristics. I can definitely get hard transients to pop out of it (when I want 'em) but I agree it's not super useful. I haven't gotten the GE Molot. I have the old one and I don't use it because - in the past at least - I couldn't get it to give me something I want. I'll have to re-evaluate! Thanks for the reply!

It's an interesting plugin, but I would use mainly the saturation part. So, should I buy this or Goodhertz Tupe?
That's the real question.

Interesting as well, but it makes things too dark very easily. And so far I feel the saturation sweet spot is not that easy to achieve.

I just demo'd Blyss for a few minutes. I was skeptical but another AE had recommended it and I had seen this thread, so I gave it a shot. Noooooooot bad! Certainly better than I expected. For a plug-in it packs a lot of analog-sounding vibe and smooth rich EQ. A little of it's saturation combined with EQ boosts can breathe life into a track and open up the sound quite nicely. I don't have much use for the compressor section but the EQ/Sat is impressive on first try.
I did a master of a track using Blyss and then compared it against the master I had already done of that track yesterday. The Blyss track didn't win the shootout but it did stack up respectably against a track that had passed through $40K worth of hardware.
I can think of several uses for this thing. Nice job.
