I'm using a 2018 Mini.
I went to a big box electronics store and bought a 32" HDMI TV. Seems to work fine. I can see what I'm doing, text is readable. Resolution is 1920 x 1080 I think. Cheap, under $200 US.
I do graphic design for a living and there's no way in hell I would use this for my day job stuff. But for running Logic etc. it's totally adequate.

Thanks so far everyone. I’m short sighted and can see fine up close without my glasses but beyond about 24” (60 cm) things being to get blurry without them. But with my glasses on I need to be at least 48” (120 cm) away because any closer and it gets blurry again. So basically either I get a big ass monitor/TV and sit 6 feet away with my glasses on or get a smaller 27” to 34” 4K monitor and sit around 18”-24” away with my glasses off. I’m leaning towards the latter and at a 24” viewing distance I think 4K is going to be essential. I’ve found a 34” LG Monitor that looks like a candidate but it is expensive at around $1500 USD here in Oz. www.scorptec.com.au/product/monitors/25plus-inch/74826-34wk95u-wThe split screen feature looks very useful as well. I don’t plan on changing monitors every few years and need to be able to live with it for as long as possible without straining my eyes. I figure there’s going to be a flurry of 5K to 6K monitors hitting the market shortly so we’ll see what eventuates but around the 30” mark in a 4K monitor seems to be where I’m at.

I am a fan of smaller monitors for a variety of reasons. As long as you don’t have clients that are going to be breathing in your ear. But one piece of advice, if you’re going to be sitting 2 feet away from your monitor get the best resolution and the highest refresh rate you can afford. flicker is real, the higher quality makes a big difference with eyestrain especially if you are up close. And for the love of God, don’t use it on the factory settings! Nobody needs that much brightness.

I’m not a gamer but hours in front of a monitor is not what we are naturally supposed to do.
