Just found out this is pretty slick with my multi-touch screen laptop. I can do this sort of hands on mixing thing on this little 15" screen. Haven't done a session yet but I'll try it certainly. These plugins certainly sound good enough to dominate a project, SSL has always been one of the best for that. I'll have to make a Reaper SSL template and have a go at it. Laptop was cheaper than the SSL control surface, haha!

But UA needs to improve "Render" meter before all their new releases. Hit red pretty fast, while in Logic with the same session is at 15% of the computer's dsp. Now I will not whine about it. But like the workflow with UC1 on this clip:

If I wasn’t so invested in Console 1 I’d be buying this in a heartbeat. I still might!
One thing missing from the SSL is the analog modeling, which Softube has in the form of the Drive control. And then, I own more Softube channel strips and compatible plugins.

This is the best attempt of mimiking a console worflow on the DAW imo.
Problems with things like Harrison, Acustica Modula and UAD LUNA is that you are still using a mouse, but twisting tiny knobs. I really don't see any advantage than putting a channel strip on all the inserts and just opening the one you want to work.
Console 1 is similar to the UC1, but the problem is that there isno visual feedback on the controller, neither for tweaking, nor for selecting the track. You have to keep looking up and down, to the screen, to the controller.
This SSL allows you to mix with your screen off, and that's the most important aspect of it.

I love my console 1. Haven't used it much just because most productions I do require lots of other kinds of plugs. But when I have mixed just with the C1, I love the fact that I am just listening and working with knobs.
I really like the SSL better from the looks of it. I have the Native bus comp and strip 2, I like them both.

This is definitely on my long term shopping list. The way it works in Logic is really cool. I think I could easily do whole mixes solely with this channel strip.
There's a list of improvements I'd like to see them do with the 360 software, which is essential to using the controller. But the workflow now is really nice.
The bundle package of two plugins normally costs around $350, so if you consider those are part of the deal for new buyers, the cost of the controller itself is a little better. Closer to the cost of the Softube product.

I couldn’t have a better workflow as I have it now with the Raven. To me it’s best of both worlds. I can have a console like workflow plus all advantages of the DAW/OS.

Looks like 3rd party plug-in control is getting added:

This, along with the Nektar controller delivering this quarter, are some exciting developments.
So it's just VST3 for now?
The Nektar says they are just AU Logic for now. I guess it's just a lot of labor going through the possible plugin options.
