I feel a bit self-conscious posting this but here's the mix I did with no HPF: distrokid.com/hyperfollow/stormymondays/forever-youngI love how it turned out. Sometime this week I'll get from the studio the old mix (made two years ago) and the current one and post them on a Dropbox folder. Of course I'm a better mixer now, and I have some extra hardware I didn't have then, but it's still an interesting comparison. I'm also the producer, singer and guitarist, so please be gentle with any criticism... I almost "for some reason" expected the bass to start making my laptop speakers fart and flex but it didn't. Also sounded great through an interface with headphones, it has a real sort of punch to it. You can feel the songs vibrations which is mighty cool actually.. Good stuff.

Thanks! I tested it on several speakers, big and small I forgot to mention it's a Hofner bass, which makes the low end a bit peculiar.

This thread has inspired me to use low shelf filters to cut bass on vocals, drums, guitar, bass, rather than relying so much on the high pass. Maybe everyone else already knew this, but this is an effective way to use EQ to control low end. I believe the phase "penalty" is less severe with a couple dB of shelf.
