I've had the beginning of a diy M49 sitting in a box for a few years and its time to try and finish it off. i started it years back when the bodies were being developed on group diy but those bodies after 2 years got shelved, so frustrated, i shelved the project. fast forward quite a years and the bodies have been available for a while now from various people.
since time has moved on there are many more options now for parts. so what body / transformer / capsule should i aim for? from memory i bought the self bias round circuit boards from vintagemicrophonepcb.
i was going to get the microphone parts body , thiersch cap and ami transformer. for no other reason than they have a good name.
all suggestion welcome.

Body is available on store.studio939.com from Chunger, chinese m49 style body. Transformer bv11 from Moby is great too, theres also FAB bv11, Haufe... Capsule - Thiersh is IMHO ok, 3U audio have now new M7 style capsule, Maiku k47, Dany's M7...
M49C version is more DIY friendly. For M49b you will need more 'complicated' PSU...
I have point to point boards with rubber parts for M49 C ans B version...

Funny you mention this. I had the same thing happen on that forum. Lost $250 or so on one of those bodies that never happened.
Fast forward some years and I finished mine two days ago with Chungers body.
Mine uses the AMI T49 transformer. Also check out Moby's stuff. His are apparently very close to the originals.
I used Dany's m7 capsule and I think it sounds very good.

Sure thing. I just started a thread with some clips. IMO it's worth doing... it's a really good mic. No idea how close to a 49c but it probably harkens to that sound a bit.

Incredible album. I saw some studio pics of the Dave Brubeck sessions for Take 5 I think, and they had an m49 on upright bass, piano and sax. www.morrisonhotelgallery.com/photographs/HOgg6H/Dave-Brubeck-New-York-City-1959Pretty cool. You should definitely make it! I haven't stopped pining for a 67 for years, but I may just buy one... we'll see. I wouldn't mind another m49c. If I do it again, I'd rather powder coat the body and do a flat nickel on the basket.
