Hi folks, Just posted a new tutorial ( ) that shows some tricks about getting small rooms. Obviously it primarily covers Exponential Audio, but there are a few things you might use with other verbs.

Great tutorial as usual Michael! Today I'm going to see if I can create something as cool as the " Little Red Car " preset in R2. Love that space!

Alright, here's an attempt to find a better sound for a tiny space than VVV's " Ambience Tiled Room" which has alot of fans here including myself. This preset from Phoenix is a bit warmer and less obtrusive than " Ambience Tiled Room" imo, but it's making the snare pop in a more powerful way because of the warmth. Hat's aren't as present and the kick sounds about the same. Michael, I'm not sure if we can swap presets like this but I'm going to post this anyway to see if it works.

Problem is the presets Michael supplies are freakin great!! LOL Lemme know how that works for you lolo and if you have any improvements...

There a way to import or load it Anton?

I think you have to manually place the preset in ( windows ) YourName\AppData\Roaming\ExponentialAudio\PhoenixVerb
Mac ~/Library/Application Support/ExponentialAudio/PhoenixVerb/User
Just to be sure it's on pg 6 of the users manual. lolo if you have VVV could you compare your thoughts on how this preset compares to the Ambience Tiled Room or Very Small Amb presets in VVV?

This is probably the best reverb tutorial I've ever seen.
It gave me the idea of trying something very interesting. I began with the great early reflections from the Oxford reverb. Then I followed up with phoenixverb tweaked to smooth it out just a bit and then tweak and add phoenixverb's utterly gorgeous tail to the mix.

Hey Bob - it's fantastic to have you and Michael Carnes here! You both have a WEALTH of information that can help all of us! (And hopefully we'll sell a couple reverbs for Michael )

My traditional attitude about early reflections beginning with the Lex 224 has always been to turn them off immediately! This finally delivers what the 224 and its successors promised but I always felt fell short of. I've even used PheonixVerb for mastering and editing a symphony concert where the mike needed to be too close.

I have 4 small ambience presets that I created for R2 if anyones interested. Because of that great tutorial I spent a bit of time seeing if I could come up with something useful preset wise. Well, both verbs are a delight to tweak and you can get great results really quick. Problem is Michael's presets are freaking great so I had to resist temptation to just find a preset that works . Today I'm working on a medium tempo ballad and I'll try some medium spaces. So far I just slapped " Fat Vintage Hall Dark " from R2 on the piano and acoustic guit and it sounds gorgeous without being obtrusive.

So your saying that R2 with early reflections turned off it gets you into 224 territory? Or you just prefer the sound with early reflections turned off.

I prefer the sound of the 224 with them off. I always went for an EMT 140 solid state stereo rather than a 224 if it was available. This was back in the daze when nobody even considered the possibility of ever owning any of this stuff.

I use the UAD EMT 140 all the time, man, that thing feels like hardware.
