LOS ANGELES, CA—Audiences were shocked at the 63rd Grammy Awards after watching an "audacious", "daring", and "edgy" performance by a fully clothed woman who sang a beautiful song. "I never knew a person could wear that much clothing at once," said one attendee of the event. "And her song featured melody, harmony, rhythm, and coherent lyrics. It was one of the most shocking things I've ever seen." Thousands of conservative boomers celebrated the performance, however, as they had accidentally tuned in because they thought Blue Bloods was on. "Now that's real music," said elderly viewer Frank T. Rutherford. "I didn't know the young 'uns knew how to make real music anymore." CBS executives have apologized for the "inappropriately decent and appropriate" performance and have promised to add more stripping and profanity to next year's show.

Wasn't there something about Milli Vanilli and lip-syncing being bad, like around 30 years ago? It's ok now? No, not the lipsynching thing. It was the fact that the Milli Vanilli guys didn't even sing on their own album, it was all studio musicians and singers. The Milli guys couldn't sing if their life depended on it. The band was the brainchild of their extremely successful producer, who pulled the same stunt with a bunch of other acts here in Germany and sold tons of records. Made him a millionaire. He even sang some parts himself instead of the guy who was lipsynching and prancing on stage.
The Grammys have always been a massive joke. Can't take those people seriously. Same goes for the Hall of Fame clowns. It's all just about the money. These people represent everything thats wrong with the music business. Too much business, not enough music. I'm glad I'm out.

Finally saw a couple of the obvious lip sync performances. No thanks. Though, when the ‘music’ is indeed kinda all production, does it matter? People that go see a Cardi B or whatever, are they intending to see someone “perform”? Feels like they’re just wanting the spectacle. I don’t know that anyone actually believes they’re seeing anything other than a bigger, flashier version of a music video.
As for the dismal ratings, that’s pretty much across the board. Awards shows and big events like these have all been tanking. The Super Bowl had the lowest ratings since the 60s or something like that.
Do any of you guys actually, like, watch broadcast television as part of your life? Like the thing where you go “oh, honey, it’s 8 PM on a Wednesday, our favorite show is on! Time to watch _________!” I don’t think I know anyone who does that. Even my folks are nearly 100% streaming.
I find it heartening. The old paradigm of “Ok, I’ll subject my soul to a bunch of boner pill and makeup ads in exchange for a chance to see an episode of the 537th prime time cop drama” can be taken out with the trash as far as I’m concerned.

Not sure how the Grammy's works behind the scenes but I have performed on live broadcast television a handful of times and a few smaller more local stations were actual live performances. When we were part of a bigger national broadcast sometimes using tracks for instruments and vocals was out of our hands and the label had no say. Sometimes the production company dictates this. I guess with Grammy's though it must be choice for artists as there are evidently some performances that are clearly real and some are layers and layers of vocals.

There was that Ed Sheerhan Grammys performance a couple years ago where he live looped everything. It was a bold, gutsy move to do all that on such a big stage.

My dad watches Jeopardy and "Wheel" sometimes, at night, yeah, at a certain time. Those are classics, I suppose.

Just politics and propaganda hostile to me. I don't see a reason to watch.

Been following Haim for a while. Great to see them on the Grammies. Watch them absolutely kick ass at Glastonbury a few years ago:

And I loved Mickey Guyton’s performance as well. Truth. I look forward to watching her and Keith Urban host the ACMs.

I didn’t watch, after reading about it, it sounds pretty dreadful, akin to a tacky sex show, rather than recognizing innovative and original music.

Agreed, I know there were some good musical acts, the rest: bottom drawer egotistical nonsense.

Adam Sandler’s “Medium Pace.” Lol! "At a medium pace." "Hey goat, go out for a pass! Damn, fellas, that thing is pointy!" My favorite from that record is the Principal's Office. Genius. I can still recite in character “Tollbooth Willy.” Hahaha!

I dug that they ditched the arena venue and showed more intimate glimpses of the various artists.
Sad about the ratings because the Grammy show sees The Recording Academy garnering the lion's share of its whole year's income from that one nite on CBS.
I liked Dua Lipa a lot and Bruno Mars smoove mover music was incredible.
Chicago had a big nite as our man Charlie Post won Best Engineered Classical for his Chicago Symphony Orchestra recording. Kanye won, John Prine won posthumously, big Blues wins etc.
Sadly, while winners should be able to boost their fees, each time I've asked an engineering winner if they will raise their fees, they said, "Hud, I'd be fired if I did that."
