Am I the only one who has been waiting for this to be announced/released?
Surely, not!
I mean, we are clearly in the era of V-Mu compressor redux, and that would be ASAF!

No. After my Helios 69EQ is in production . . . and all audioscape Charlie's wants, and Chris's plans, and drbill gets to have his say, then it's up to the boss. LOL

176 would be a tough one in my opinion, I'd think something like a RS124 would be easier to make. I did just see the email where the buss comps are shipping a month ahead of schedule...now how audioscape is that? Love those guys and look forward to whatever is next!

I did just see the email where the buss comps are shipping a month ahead of schedule...now how audioscape is that? Love those guys and look forward to whatever is next! YESSS!!! You're on the bleeding edge of the news!! Hahahaha, I JUST finished writing that e-mail all up and blasting it out.. DEFINITELY #ASAF !!!! Thanks SO MUCH man!!! Always love your support !!!! Ward of the state - LOLLLLLLLLL - y'all are killing me!!! Hahahaha. We did JUST start work on a new (and extremely iconic) variable-mu tube compressor that, to my knowledge, has NOT been attempted by anyone else on an actual production / AudioScape / #ASAF level. It's going to be ridiculous. BUT, to the OP - plinker - the 176 is still on the 'long list' !! One of the great things about us and how we do things is that there is really no limit to what we can or can't do. No, we're NOT going to do a CL1B - but as far as actual vintage, OG units that are rare, expensive AF and generally unobtanium to 95% of us - we GOT YOU!! And no, I shall not reveal what the new v-mu compressor is just yet.... still in the early R & D phase ! However, as I sit here looking at the beautiful V1290 pre in my API 500 rack and running various sources through it - sheesh, I can't WAIT for y'all to hear (quite a few have seen it already!) this thing. The bottom-end is.... INSANE. The high-end is ever so slightly exaggerated (mostly due to added harmonics) but SMOOTH as all hell - the V1290 in one word? THICC. OG NEVE vibe for DAYS. #ASAF

I gotta say, I’ve used real deal 175’s and they are definitely A one trick pony.
And man I don’t like that pony one bit!
I think the myth of that particular piece is greater than the actual piece.

I’d like to throw the Ba-6a into the ring for an Audioscape work up though! Probably my favorite comp of all time.

GOOD!! I'm not alone. Hopefully audioscape Chris and Charlie will focus efforts on the 1178 (Dual 1176D in reality) project I've been pushing. And then on the V69EQ. That's if drbill agrees , of course.

So is a AS-fairchild mentioned last year as a down the road project still in the works for some day, or has that idea been abandoned?

So is a AS-fairchild mentioned last year as a down the road project still in the works for some day, or has that idea been abandoned? WE NEVER ABANDON!!! 🤬🤬🤬 Hahahahaha All is well with that product! We're on Prototype V2, working out the kinks!! It's a MONSTER of a circuit to debug and get up to snuff which = TONS of time which Chris nor myself have enough of as of late! jeremygillespie = I must agree with you on that sentiment.... which is why it has never really been a priority. It's in the "maybe" pile. HOWEVER!! I was ABSOLUTELY THRILLED to read your RCA request ::wink wink wink wink wink wink:: 😍😍😍

My wife has not formally agreed to rent the left side of our house as a means of securing an AS670, but I have my hopes. Baby steps.

Didn’t Patrick Henry say this at Gettysburg? 😎
Everything I love about America, audio and AudioScape is in this quote.

I bought a used Retro 176 and it's the balls. Straight to vocals, replacing the V-Comp. No slam against the V-Comp, but different league. From the power switch up. The Retro 176 is a tank. No flex in the panels, first-class switches and such. Just has an elegant feel and sound.
(I own four AS units. Not a slam. Just my two cents.)
Edit: granted it's a Sta type thing vs. a 176, so there's that.

I think you all might enjoy this. The Retro 176 is among the 7 compressors being compared. I chose the CL1B first, the 176 second. What do you think?

The only time I heard a retro 176 in action I had to stop mid sentence to ask my friend (who was engineering the session) what he just did to the guitar. He had just patched in the 176, and the tone was obvious, and gorgeous.
I have no idea how similar the retro 176 is to the UA175/176...but it’s a really nice sounding piece in my limited experience

I have a Retro 176 and about to order a second one. Great box.
Martin, I also have a CL1B it is very different than the Retro 176. They are both excellent and wouldn't want to be without either one.

For the guys that have used an original 175b or 176 have you also had a chance to use the Retro 176? I just know the UA plug ins sound nothing like the Retro but admittedly that isn't a fair fight. Considering how much I love the Retro 176 it's surprising that the 175b/176 fell so flat with some users here. I assumed they would be more similar. Phil must have really done some magic on the retro!

I am not quite as enamored with artifacts, loss of top-end or distortion as some folks are, so I may choose differently to some of you 1. Acme in the mix, not on its own 2. Chandler RS124, lost by .001% 3. Tubetech CL1b 4. Retro's V-Comp knock-off (ok, I'm audioscape biased) . . yeah it only sounds good in the mix, but isn't that what we're after? 5. Highland BG2 6. Retro 176 7. Universal LA2a
