I have a Retro 176 and about to order a second one. Great box. Martin, I also have a CL1B it is very different than the Retro 176. They are both excellent and wouldn't want to be without either one. 79sg, if you had to pick one for male vocals, which one would you chose?

What style of music? CL1B is generally my go to during tracking for vocals and bass. The 176 I find works really well on material where I want to pin the vocal front and center if that makes sense, for acoustic guitars, synths, electric guitars (yea, I really like distressors for this as well) and bass. CL1B is more polite. I recently did a song that I used the Retro 176 for tracking everything except drums. I"ll find the song and figure out how to post it in the What Are You Working On part of the site.

โ No, we're NOT going to do a CL1B - but as far as actual vintage, OG units that are rare, expensive AF and generally unobtanium to 95% of us - we GOT YOU!!โ Didnโt Patrick Henry say this at Gettysburg? ๐ Everything I love about America, audio and AudioScape is in this quote. ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ THIS. POST. IS. AMAZING!!!! ;-) Thanks y'all! No matter what, I can ASSURE you that amongst ALL of our new, upcoming products, at least ONE of them is bound to scratch an itch for ALL of you; no matter you're personal sonic preferences ๐

Thanks 79sg. I've posted this before, but this is my benchmark vocal sound I try to reach. I probably would like the CL1B since I like less grip more finesse.
This works for me too, Massenburg custom EQ and compression:

For the guys that have used an original 175b or 176 have you also had a chance to use the Retro 176? I just know the UA plug ins sound nothing like the Retro but admittedly that isn't a fair fight. Considering how much I love the Retro 176 it's surprising that the 175b/176 fell so flat with some users here. I assumed they would be more similar. Phil must have really done some magic on the retro! Retro is way more usable on different sources and can be dialed in for many a situation. The 175b just canโt. It is what it is, and for me it was nothing more than a mush box. Mind you, I also think the Manly VariMรป is a mush box (the one I fiddled with anyway). So, take my opinion with a grain of salt. Everything is so subjective and we all hear things differently and get results from what we hear in our brains our own way.

Guilt by association? I thought that was an outdated viewpoint.....
