Hi all,
ive worked on this project last 6 months and finally its done. IMHO clean mic with big headroom. Lower sensitivity than modern microphones. Love cranking gain on my preamps
Used parts and design hints: - transformer from Srdjan Colic alias Moby from Serbia - 3U audio K47 style capsule - soviet 6S51N-V nuvistor - costly wet tantalum capacitor on the output - point to point HiZ section - unregulated anode section of PSU, LM317 based heater section of PSU - 9 switchable polar patterns, swith on PSU case - cheap BM700/800/900 donor body
Best

Maybe I'm missing something, but a C12 clone with a K47 capsule?

K47 is what i had in my pocket. CT12 from Tim is next level.

Nice man, is that a microphone parts body/kit.

Microphone body is from Aliexpress - BM800. But headbasket is different one....
Boards was designed by me.

That little nuvistor is slick.

Not even close.
Wrong head basket (affects mic acoustics.) Wrong capsule. Wrong TYPE of capsule (edge terminated, not center) Don't know about the transformer as type is not stated.
I have no idea if the circuit is similar, but the above alone takes it out of the C12A class. (I happen to own a REAL C12A in excellent condition.)
I'm prettyy sure it doesn't sound the same. However it looks like a good build and may sound very good - but not like a real C12A.

Yep, agree, more than 'clone' its c12a circuit inspired mic....(Its DIY thing). Thanks.

A real C12A has a 414 style body. Flat. That makes a considerable acoustic difference in the headbasket. Where to get a proper basket? I dunno. It also has a somewhat clumsy multipin mount that is also the stand mount. PITA.

This is super cool. AKG C12A's are not a circuit you see cloned often. And the fact that you designed the board yourself is awesome. Kudos.

Milan Very tidy build man. I like the power supply design and enclosure choice.

I think you will appreciate Tim's capsule a lot: I do. I did the studio 939 build. The clone wars wage on , but mikes are really just tools so as long as you get the performance you want; and you have the pride of build its all good.

That's really cool. I was thinking of attempting a 414EB in a BM800 body, this is inspiring.
Matt at IAA got me going on baby steps towards self PCB design so something like this would be a good challenge.

Thats great! Actualy Im finishing C414EB-P48 circuit board design - cardiod only version without pad and HPF switches.

Thats great! Actualy Im finishing C414EB-P48 circuit board design - cardiod only version without pad and HPF switches. Just saw your facebook page - I might be a customer in the near future. Would like to ween myself off of other peoples' PCBs but it's so hard to resist a good one. I think maybe I'll start with a really simple one transistor boost pedal or something, to get my chops wet, see if I can even do it.

Why? Because of limited space in donor body and one sided c12 capsule Im going to use.. I will tune final sensitivity of mic though... I like simply designs. Other reason is that I have many multipatterns mics in my studio. So again its not clone, but something inspired by original. I like freedom of DIY!

One sided capsule? Who are you trying to kid?
You know, I've got a car. It's JUST LIKE a Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud limo - except that it's a Toyota SUV.
Why not say, HEY, I'm building a mic and I think it's a pretty cool idea - It uses a bit of AKG and a bit of Neumann in my own DIY!
EDIT: BTW a real C12A has the pattern switch on the power supply, not the mic

Understanding electronics enough to have that kind of fun is really nice. Have fun !

In not sure if I understand you corretly... We are in DIY section, arent we? Did you ever build your own microphone? Btw. I talked about c414eb p48 mic circuit. One sided C12 capsule - did you see Mark Chierego capsules? He is able to manufacture one sided brass C12 style capsule for me...is it same thing like original c12 capsule? No...but for me is good enough.... Especially for you, HEY, I'm building a mic and I think it's a pretty cool idea - It uses a bit of AKG and a bit of Neumann in my own DIY!

My last project is M49 clone (for mr. john eppstein - not clone, its only my own wiev on M49 microphone circuit, there are difference in headbasket, psu, ....) with original Neumann K49 capsule and Telefunken AC701 tube.
IMHO nice sounding mic.

I missed it the first time around, but there is no reason to coil the wires to the capsule. In fact, they might vibrate like a spring slightly and cause issues.

Looking good! Just make sure that the bolt holding the toroidal transformer doesn't touch the top cover of the enclosure!
