Cool! The 4K preamp I made with a Carnhill input was awesome - probably one of my biggest gear regrets was selling it a few years ago.

But you could add a Colour module for some more mojo pretty easily! They definitely won’t unless modded but I’m sure they will sound great regardless. I think I saw that they were using Jensen. I would definitely go for the transformer input option. Almost makes me want to get back into 500 series. |

any thoughts on how these would compare sound wise to the diyre cp5s? Probably a bit different. Very different design going on and different chips. But both are still IC based preamps. I haven't used the CP5 but I'd wager that it is probably "cleaner" than the SSL preamp and more neutral. |

I picked up the 4kE - I’ll get to put it on drums sometime this month. Ostensibly, it’s got some amazing features for the price. If I like it, I’ll drop in a distortion color option and most likely buy another pre or two and an eq
