Waves Puigchild 670. The attack isn't awful which is rare for a modeled waves plug. The low end doesn't sound like tubes. It sounds digital but it sounds cool. Better than digital pedals but it can be harsh. The m/s compression on this is nice but it doesn't have the widest image. No distorted guitars and the upper mids are just weird. Is the push just audible aliasing? DDMF Magic Death Eye Stereo. This sounds great seawell . Super gelled. The oversampling is minimum phase thus unusable on any thing with upper treble. You get weird phase shifted cymbals and guitar hash. Gross. Non-oversampled, this is killer and just makes stuff sound slightly better. I dig it but it's very modern in a good way. The oversampling is useless and harmful. There's no m/s compression either, only EQ, so it's not really what I'm looking for. PSP OldTimer ME. This is dense and pushed at the same time. Wow. This is like a calmer version of Puigchild with better, softer timings. The lows are saturated slightly and the entire background is pushed forward and to the sides. Old Timer is less "guitar processor" than the Puigtec. MJUC narrows the image and brings out the bass a ton. It needs a low shelf before or after it. Mk I is the thickest. Pulsar MU. Not a fan. The attack is kinda clicky and gross. You can't dig in really the middle. Oversampling killed my CPU. Overloud Gem Comp 670. This was subtle but sounds pretty good. The three models all sound different. The oversampling was like the DDMF Magic Death Eye Stereo so again minimum phase and harmful. The m/s compression is great but it can. The GUI and VU meter suck. The needle oscillates like crazy. This can get really wide, causing big gaps in a diffuse image. I went with the Old Timer ME because it widened the stereo image slightly without creating gaps like the Overloud or a gross high end like Waves.Old timer is good stuff.

I need a Varimu type plug with m/s mode for vintage type sound. Something 670 like. MJUC lacks it and the Neold V76U73 doesn’t emulate a varicom. Thinking Oldtimer ME, Magic Death Eye Stereo, Pulsar MU (can’t dig in), maybe even the Waves Puigchild 670. Any thoughts? Check the OverTone DSP FC70 Vintage Limiter if it can provide what you are after Without doing anything it already has "vintage type" frequency response.

Still haven’t found a native one that’s as good as UAD mkII. Use it a lot, mostly on vocals.

For whatever reason, I keep coming back to the IK emu. It does something to the high end that I really, really like, and the compression behavior does a great job of "compacting" stereo mixes without sounding small or squished. Very rare quality in a plugin.
I also swear I can there's a difference between the TR4 and the TR5 versions — worth experimenting if you have both installed simultaneously. I kind of like the older one more, interestingly enough.

One that hasn't been mentioned is the IK Dyna Mu, I think it's really quite nice, one of the fancier IK plugins. It gets pretty pumpy and vibey and has a lot of color if you want it. Yeah, I like a little of this one on my master bus. It’s got a little bit of a Manley thing going on.

I finally ran a vocal through the Mix:Analog Fairchild clone and the resulting saturation was something that I don’t think I’ve ever heard a plug-in get “right”. It was impressive.

I used it on wind instruments, put an EQ in front of it and tame the top end pre-comp. It works well...well, well-enough

ADDENDUM. Produce like a pro Jack Joseph Puig explains his Plug. Yes this is probably the best of the Waves models! Then maybe the BSS DPR-402. Both are mega dirty but cool and smoke the awful CLA stuff, the not a dbx 160 dbx 160 "model" and the truly WTF Altec
