I'm considering : Avalon 2055 EQ for more musical EQ goodness (and color?) Manley Vari Mu - (but are the non 6386 tube versions worth it?)
Buzz Audio SOC-20 - (could double as a useful vocal/inst. tracking compressor) Avalon 2044 Comp (nice makeup gain right?, can double as a vocal compressor, cheap)
I have: Silver Bullet
What else comes to your guys' minds as irreplaceable stereo pieces?

One of the least expensive (and yet very impactful) moves is probably a GSSL-style bus comp (Audioscape’s is great) inserted in your Silver Bullet. That’s what I did a couple years ago, and I love it. I think it’s useful for a lot of things, not just drumbus or stereo bus duties. I like it on bass when tracking. It can be nice on guitars, even vocals. And it’s not terribly expensive.

However having the UA G buss I'ts gone down the priority list after seeing just how much good some nice color and musical analog EQ can do. So I'm focused on those types of pieces more, in the Buzz's case it can double as vocal compression which I also really need though its not a particularly colored piece.
Nevertheless I will either be getting the Audioscape Buss or a Smart C1/C2 down the line for SSL bus compression.

I have a Smart C1LA, I love it! It is very versatile. I had an Avalon AD2055 and wish I’d kept it. I preferred it over pultec clones because it really brought things forward in such a pleasant way. Clean eq but not boring at all 👍🏻

Clean eq but not boring at all 👍🏻 That's exactly what I'm looking for seawell. I think the SB is getting me closer, and the Avalon could offer the rest of that musical forwardness/excitement I seek. My ITB stuff is always begging for more excitement, but then ITB exciting tools always sound very digital to me. I was stunned how musical the SB's EQ sounded. It feels like I'm not even EQing like things were just recorded that way. (granted i've never had a hardware eq aside from the MA5 28k button)

I don't have the audioscape, but the Serpant Sb4001 I think is a better choice over all. A lot more useable for a bus compressor.
That said..
Other things I use a lot:
DIYRE EQp5s(only the low end now though) IGs TUbecore EQ-6S

The Avalon 2055 has always been a staple in recording EQ.

Very interesting question, thanks OtisGreying. A couple of questions I have to broaden the scope of the inquiry, Are you all running 2 buss out of your converters into Comps, limiters and EQs or running these analog hardware devices as converter-facilitated inserts? Do you EQ before Comp before limiting or how do you arrange your signal chain? As for gear, when do I do run this way, I like to use my crusty old Focusrite 2 and 3.

The Avalon 2055 has always been a staple in recording EQ. Is it too clean though? I'td be a bummer if it the box didn't provide some analog tone since I'm mostly ITB.

I'm selling a Cranesong Ibis and Elysia mpressor, both of which have some color and flexibility.

Depending on your preferred styles of music, having an SSL style comp is mandatory in my opinion. I have the one by TK Audio and I love it. That doesn’t preclude having other comp flavors, of course. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) For a stereo EQ, the A-designs Hammer ticks all the boxes for me.

I'm in a similar position. I'm all ITB except for the 2-buss, where I have the AudioScape Buss Compressor in an otherwise virtual gear chain. So I'm looking for something to complement it functionally and give me a few more color options. The Silver Bullet seems like overkill; I don't need all that functionality. I was actually thinking of getting another compressor like the Manley Vari Mu, but that might be a bit out of my price range at the moment. Sitting tight for now and following threads like this.

My flagship piece in the 2-buss is the Black Box Analog HG-2. It's on from the very first minute of mixing.

Terry CEQ is on my dreamgear want list. Cool for ITB’ers because it takes up TONS of rack space, so you don’t have ugly empty racks

If you don’t mind my suggestion, we have had very good feedback on our stereo EQ which is made with both tracking and bus duty in mind. www.ironageaudioworks.com/v2

I knew that was coming. I’ve been pricing out reissue, vintage, and DIY pultecs, and another second EQ for more versatile stuff, ... And then remembered the CEQ. It is actually a really good value (assuming the build is there). And he offers a cheaper non-stepped version. I don’t know the build but it seems promising. How much would a custom faceplate cost?

I totally would have bought a '68 and skipped the meh preamps and DI.
