Here are clips of two songs I recorded to demonstrate the sound difference between a few mics and capsules. The two songs are "When I Fall In Love" and "I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues". I chose these songs for their difference in dynamics, and of course, to test the U47 on a Nat King Cole song! I'm kind of new at this whole shootout thing, so I designed the tracks to be loaded in a DAW and line up with the vocals. You can process as desired. __________________ The MICS: Pair custom made (for me) Beesneez C12's with the BN CK12 historically accurate capsules Mic&Mod U47 with Beesneez M7 capsule AKG C414BULS __________________ Piano was recording with the 2 BN C12's, in omni. Vocals were then recorded separately with the three different mics in cardioid. All tracks went through a Presonus FireStudio. Not the best, but that's what I have in my laptop rig. If I waited to get the good stuff to the piano, this shootout would have been months away. Piano levels may be slightly off L to R because of the stupid detented knobs on the Presonus. You'll get the idea, regardless of all this. I'll upload some pics soon. _ https%3A//soundcloud.com/hit-masters/piano-bnc12-fallhttps%3A//soundcloud.com/hit-masters/piano-bnc12-blueshttps%3A//soundcloud.com/hit-masters/mmu47-fallhttps%3A//soundcloud.com/hit-masters/mmu47-blueshttps%3A//soundcloud.com/hit-masters/c414buls-fallhttps%3A//soundcloud.com/hit-masters/c414buls-blueshttps%3A//soundcloud.com/hit-masters/bnc12-fallhttps%3A//soundcloud.com/hit-masters/bnc12-blues

for me, the IOaudio MK47 8) wins for your(very good) voice on "blues", the 414 finishes last, the C12 is bright as expected in a good way, if you get a couple extra $, get a Thiersch blue line M7 for the 47, you will love it! I have beez K7,M7, i've used them all for periods in my U47, Thiersch M7 wins hands down IMO
nice job Ben

Thanks Tony, and yes, IOaudio needs to get credit for that sound. The 414 is still a great mic, but definitely lacks the magic of the other two. Do you think the Blue Line is that much better of a capsule to justify the expense of replacement?

I just made the files downloadable from Sound Cloud, in case anyone wants to import them into a DAW.

I believe Shannon can put in his own M7 too...but I have no idea how much it would cost.

What exactly are we shooting out? These are completely different mics of different calibers and different designs on different sources recorded at different times into a device known for it's coloration and then it's all mixed differently.. Are we just doing a "judgement" rather than a shootout?

ben...just curious, can you be more specific as to what a "pair custom made (for me) Beesneez C12's" are?...did you build them?...are they built from one of the kits on the DIY?...I believe BeesNeez' own C12 style mic is the Phelicity, or the cheaper Shelise... ...anyway, they sound nice... ...BTW, the reason the Thiersch Blue Line sounds a bit different from the BeesNeez M7 (as well as the Thiersch Red Line) is due to the material used to skin the capsule...the Blue Line uses PVC material (like the older Neumann M7 capsules) while I believe the others employ polyester/mylar...Brian Fox (foxaudioresearch.ca) has been testing/comparing both of the Thiersch M7 (Red Line and Blue Line) capsules in U47-type circuits with interesting results...

svart, if we were choosing which mic sounded best on my voice, then it would be a shootout. Since that was not the intention, I see your point. Let's call it a "Mic Check" because that's really what we're doing is listening to mics and checking out the sound. kidvybes, I had contacted Ben at Beesneez about modding a pair of P12's to be more like the C12. After some discussion he suggested that he build me a pair of mics with the C12 circuit. These are prototypes of what he may someday offer as his "T4" in his Tribute series. It has the same body as his T2 (the BN version of the ELAM 251) the BN CK12 capsule and a NOS GE 5 Star tube. If you go to my facebook fan page there are some pics (see link above). As far as the M7, I really like the BN cap. It would be interesting to hear how different is it from the Red Line, however. It would also be great to hear the BNC12 against a real AKG C12. If anyone near Rhode Island wants to play, let me know.

Here's the clip of the guitar amp. The guitar is a Gretch hollow body and the amp is an Acoustic. I think I just attached some pics. Fingers crossed. lol.

I also have the Thiersch M7 PVC and K7 Beesneez in my U47. Both sounds so good!! K7 has a rich body in the mids and presence in high mids, and M7 PVC has a silky high end detail that is a pleasure to hear. i keep both.
