I have had in the long past a few tracks that were semi successful in their respected genres.
A recent trend has been for companies with whom i licensed tracks for compilations over 25 years ago getting in touch wanting to re-release and stream their compilations. A couple of these compilations sold over 500,000 copies at the time hence my following question.
I have the original tracks on Spotify.
I am confused on how this would work for me.
Does the Spotify algorithm recommend to listeners the original version of the track which i have released or the most streamed version which over time could probably be another label's compilation version, as they have the backing, history and means to promote.
I have tried looking into it and have come up with nothing hence this longwinded post..

Excellent question. I'll get snacks and wait for an answer.
I would think if you licensed the tracks originally, and they need a new contract for streaming, you could set the rate. If the comp reissue will reasonably bring in a bonus of new streams which outnumber your current trends, it may be worth taking a lower rate for greater play counts. What's the flip side?

If it gets published under a new "album" ie compilation, then that is the track that will get the traffic not your original one.

Nice of them to ask, rather than just stealing your art.
