Not trying to be a dick with the build stuff, but I found this pic of the Abbey Road gobos I built for my friend's place (mentioned in the studio furniture build thread). I think it was 2013 or so. This is the first completed one after I had done the panels. This is the gobo standing in the condo I lived in at the time, where I welded on the patio and my neighbors thought I was insane.
The frames were welded box steel and powder coated. We did 10 full-size ones and four half-size. Thick Plexiglass in the middle for the ones with windows. I think we did two full-size with all panels and they were heavy as hell.
We followed the PDF that's out there from Abbey Road and I bought "From The Sky Down", a U2 doc, because they're sitting in Olympic (I think?) in front of several of them. Also had reference pics from David Gilmore doing Dark Side.
Not sure I have permission to share the makeup of the panels since my buddy came up with it, but they're different on both sides with a sandwich of insulation and a panel in the middle covered by Giulford of Maine fabric. They were an absolute bitch to make and one of those projects I truly regretted taking on. I got pretty good at upholstery though, lol.
Edit: trying to find a pic with them all in a circle in the live room at my friend's place. Pretty cool.
Dude, I'm picturing you out on the patio with a blowtorch in hand like some mad scientist, and all the neighbors going, "WTF?!"
Haha, yes, at the time I lived pretty near downtown Dallas, so close to neighbors. Had to be sensitive to the hours when welding and cutting steel! It was a crazy project but also pretty cool to make something that over the top.
