I briefly played in a band with Bowman (first clip) a few years ago--I spent every break going "tell me about how that was tracked"....the answer was humbling...in a house...kit wrapped in plexiglass to control bleed...god bless tape and digital reverb. And as a side note--one of the ONLY times when I actually like MORE limiting in mastering than less--the SACD of that record, the drums don't sound nearly as good--the mastering guy clipped the obviously loud transients off (likely with an analog circuit of some sort) leaving some residual distortion that isn't there in the actual mix (by way of SACD master). It's only like 2db MAYBE...but, MAN is that important. And I point out simply because I always rail against making stuff loud--it's not....it's like DR12 on CD...and 13 or 14 on SACD? Sad in a way, because the SACD is a better master otherwise--the guitars and vocals sound fuller...but, that loud ass kit....needs some "donk" clipped off...IMO.

I was driving in the car and this came on the radio. I had never realized how amazing the kit sounds on this. Blew me away!
