thanks for starting this thread tasteliketape !!! Ward of the state and drbill - thank you thank you!!! We have indeed gone to great lengths to source a lot of the LONG obsolete (some we thought would be unobtanium) NOS components in the V1290 (heard THE NAME here first! haha). As the person who scoured and procured these parts - it wasn't easy and it was much more costly than I even anticipated - but the proof is in the pudding. All the good stuff - 40 year old Motorola 2N3055's, Fairchild BC184C's, Polystyrene (Styroflex), Tantalum and Polypropylene caps plus custom spec'd, USA-Made input AND output iron from two different high-end transformer gurus (this was SO important...the iron plays a large role along WITH the particular NOS components we have chosen for this build; they really do work in tandem to give us the desired result of an amazing "N" 1290 RECREATION (in 500-Series ofc) - the module itself runs at 24V internally as it should - ah I could go on and on! As a Neve™ freak myself - this was one very close to my heart in getting every little detail right (which we ALWAYS strive for) sonically and otherwise. AMAZING solid-aluminum ELMA Marconi Knobs and NOT the cheap plastic Chinese ones that are a dime a dozen EVERYWHERE. It SOUNDS beefy. It LOOKS beefy. It FEELS beefy. ...it's the AudioScape V1290 !! 😍👌🤘 It’s all about the transformers and 99% of the new ones come close but don’t nail it.

Rather have a proper, vintage-sounding 1066 than a 1073. I’m in the 1084 camp myself.

True. On that note BAE also makes a 1066 and 1023.

True. On that note BAE also makes a 1066 and 1023. Yes they’re the only ones. Very little in the way of demos out there tho. The couple of 1066s I’ve heard just sound a bit different to me—little rougher, woolier maybe, idk. Maybe people are just less inclined to have them recapped or maybe that’s just the case with the ones I’ve heard. I think the BAE is their 1073 with the different eq specs in the highs.

That is what my understanding of a 1066 is; 1290 preamp and a different EQ points than the 1073. I don’t know enough about them though. I haven’t used one.

Looking on the site ... I don't even see the product on the products list ... 500 series pres with vibe are exactly what I am looking for.
I imagine the Audioscape family is off enjoying xmas ... will keep checking back :-)

I imagine the Audioscape family is off enjoying xmas ... will keep checking back :-) INDEED! The V1290 is not up on the site yet as we still are waiting to finalize the front panel and receive the right Grayhill switches for the stepped gain control. Transformers are indeed a HUGE part of the sound - but everything effects everything effects everything - BUT, this is why we chose two different manufacturers; one for the input and one for the output (huge part of the sound). As for preamps with vibe, take a look at our V108 !!! Doesn't get much more vibey than that!! Hahaha, in a different way than a Neve or API or anything else really, but still awesome.. Thanks so much y'all!! No exact projected price on the V1290 yet - we have an idea but it will all depend on what the final time involved to build each one comes to - we know the parts costs (which is higher than usual) so figure it'll be around what a V3A costs, perhaps slightly more or less ;-) MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!

Come now, you know better than that. X might mean Xi which is Greek for Christ, but still. It's not that hard to type out, Charlie. What would your grandma say? Anyhow, I still say we need the 2400 impedance to go with the 300 and 1200. Think of the ribbons, man! Make it your baby ... or I'm telling the boss.

My Grandma was lazy and would have typed Xmas, and her the mother of a Priest a, nun and 2 other daughters who entered the convent who chose other callings, like her 7 other children. 11 kids might have explained that Xmas laziness🤔

PLEASE forgive me Ward!!! you're totally right..... *Christmas! ;-) Post FIXED! Impedance is fixed to two positions.... maybe we can do 1200 and 2400? Myself, I often like the lower impedance 😜😜 Maybe we'll surprise you! As ribbon lovers ourselves, it WOULD be nice to have that option on a Neve pre !!! MERRY (belated) CHRISTMAS AND MUCH LOVE TO ALL!!! <3 <3 <3 <3

Circling back in this ... any updates on timing for the 1290 pre?

You know, it’s funny...the 1073 pre being by itself has never struck me as weird. But I’ve been having a little trouble with separating the new Helios modules being separate. I have found myself thinking “then it’s not a Helios!” Well, I guess you could say that about the 1073. It makes me more comfortable with the Helios being separate.

The 1290 has all the gain stages of the 1073 and no additional ones. To my eye, the new H2 does not. Only the first of two. Could be wrong, though - I’m going off that one photo. But there should be two 3 transistor gain blocks. I only see one, plus the output stage which is not part of the original design.

Circling back in this ... any updates on timing for the 1290 pre? Coming VERY soon!! About a month or so!! Waiting on the final design front panels to arrive! It’s amazing and we hope you all love it as much as we do 😊
