Hi Guys, I'm at a loss to figure out what is causing this so thought I might repost here (posted on presonus forums already) ... I'm not sure what is happening, I've tried some diff buffer settings 32/64 bit settings ... Should I try drop out protection high or low? On playback a slow and steady distorted/crackle builds. This shows up on mix down...
Regarding my system using a 16" 2019 macbook pro, 64gb ram 8 core i9 ... Using two UAD x16s, and a twin X as controller... Outputting tracks into a capi 32 channel sumbus mixing that down into a dangerous AD+ for final print.
I tried clocking from the AD+ ... the x16 etc , tried diff sample rates etc...
I know troubleshooting my system is beyond anyones pay grade here lol, but just wondering if this sound is familiar and someone might know where to look to fix it. Seems to happen after a bit and starts to creep up... not sure a studio one setting? THANK YOU!

Sounds like a problem I had with my Motu units connected by AVB . Noise Would slowly come in then disappear in a few seconds . Come in and out randomly, it ended up a clocking issue. Even though both unit were set right Motu has another button to make second unit follow .So might double check all that .

There is a known issue with this kind of noise creeping in on some apollo units, multiple people have reported this type of thing on the uad forum. I think some of these units have been diagnosed defective and repaired or replaced. Maybe search around over there and see if you can get a fix on whether your problem is similar to known issues others have experienced. Possibly open a ticket with UA to get something on the books with them? troubleshooting-wise perhaps there is some way you can run the twin and rack units separately to see if the problem can be narrowed down to a single unit. somehow I suspect the twin could be a culprit in this situation but that is based on nothing objective just a hunch.

Did someone say...clocking? svartI'm not sure clocking can cause it to get worse over time. Seems like external or internal clocking causes the same issue according to the OP.

OP has a very nice setup, hope we can provide some insight to help you!
Have you raised your Buffer setting in Studio One? ( I’m on 3.5 which has it still not sure if S15 does if not my apologies )

Checked out the ua forum thread, last post states this:
“buscompressor said: 1 Week Ago actually my noise issue is resolved - when I plugged in another computer the noise simply stopped - makes me think it was just a weird earth noise. Plus it doesn't enter my recording signal, and it's not in my final audio renders. on the plus side, I can now use the Neve Preamp via Unison on my live stereo modular recordings - it's fabulous!@
I’d try running things separately and see, maybe start with computer and just twin as a base test and see.
Or do you have another computer and could you just switch that out?
If not, after the base test, I’d disconnect the twin and then test each other interface Adding them one by one, after each Addition running quiet, I’d add twin, check for noise , if none , disconnect twin and add next piece, etc. , see when the noise starts?

- Have you tried a different DAW? Maybe download Reaper to troubleshoot. Free demo + very light install (60MB) that's insanely easy to setup, should be a good way to figure out if it's a HW or SW issue.
- Try taking the AD+ out of the picture altogether. That should tell you if it's the Dangerous or the Apollo.
- I know you said you've tried different sample rates, but have you triple checked to make sure the sample rate is set properly across all units? I get a very similar glitchy distortion if my Aurora and Apollo go out of sync during playback — I'm usually at 88.2, but when I open After Effects it forces my Apollo down to 48, and any playback will be distorted until I switch the Lynx to 48.
- Do you have any systemwide audio apps running, i.e. Audio Hijack or Sonarworks Systemwide? This is another thing that causes similar distortion for me. I use Audio Hijack to run SW3 and for whatever reason, it really doesn't like when I play anything from SoundCloud in Google Chrome. Doesn't happen with any other browser, but it the audio gets all garbled and weird, very similar to yours.

Wow thanks for all the great replies. Much appreciated gonna run some more tests based on the advice here. Gah, hope its not one of the x16s haha, pain to return. I'll def report back once i get it figured out. Thanks again! Hey, I had my Apollo reset itself to default. When I tried to get signal into the daw from my pre amp or send out of the DAW to HW comp for an I/O loop this was happening on my channel 7. I reset my Apollo settings, unhooked all cables, reset PT mode then powered down. When I connected the I/O again Ch 7 had no noise or issues. I thought I was going to have to send in my Apollo for repair due to the static noise & level drop.
