Ive had one setting around for about 6 months and never hooked up as I have some really good compressors. Decided to give it a try as a insert on the board with my acoustic/electric. Really pretty decent leveler. Anybody else using these??? What are your thoughts?

I sold both of mine. I felt that they sounded sort of cloudy and it's not a sound that I'm normally after, so I moved on.

There are some mods for those somewhere online, which help them out a bit. And yeah, they are plenty decent enough to use, but I wouldn't kick anything else off the insert to patch these instead..

No doubt not great but very useable...I was expecting some noisy pumping machine. To me sounds better than plugins.

I use mine sometimes. Think I gave 150 bucks for it or something. It's better than a plugin.

I think it sounds more analog than a plugin for sure. I don't think it's better though. I guess to each their own.

I kept mine for years for a single purpose--it was GREAT when clients sent modelled Egtr tracks...it's slow enough it leaves the pick attack but the tube can be dialed to kind of saturate--it really brings those 2d POD tracks to dimensional life.
As a general purpose compressor....not very useful.
I simply stopped taking those kinds of tracks. If you must use them, get the DI, and I'll charge you to reamp it--either way, no need for the VLA.

I sold mine, too, but it was pretty good, especially for the money. I thought the thick bluriness of it or whatever worked pretty well on bass, and it was good for pumpy drum room smashing. I might have used it on vocals, I don't remember. I'd probably rate it as better than a plugin as well. On acoustic guitar I preferred the RNLA. I still have my Symetrix 501 for bass, and I don't miss my RNCs really at all. My next round of hardware is going to be higher end, DIY.
