As a general rule, I dislike mics with "pretty paint". Mics shouild be grey, siver, or black (or sometimes brown...). That'a not to say that there are no good mics with bright colors, just that I won't be ordering them. Didn’t you win a really nice mic with a pretty paint job on this site? It’s just soooo much easier to be positive than it is to be negative. Wishing you a happy and healthy ‘21, John. Indeed I did. It's a very beautiful shade of black.

Henry Ford would certainly approve! It was his favorite Model T color. Chris

Arrived quick test to make sure it works. Lovely indeed. Now to sell all my other U87 clones. I was quite surprised at the weight of this mic. Feels very nice. Very well constructed. Better then then the 3 x Stam SA87's I have owned over the years. The Fig of 8 is quite nice and the cardioid is not too over heavy in Proximity effect. Ships with a very decent shock mount.
The mic is quiet. I like what I hear. I like very much what I hear. This mic is a keeper. 1 by BEANAT19, on Flickr Do you have a BeesNeez 87?

usps tracking says still in transit (shipped 21st) - so definitely looking like next year before I'll have in hand.

Heard some customer clips on the purple site vs a “ c12 “ & was quite impressed w/ this mic. Is this based off the Ai, or 87i? Actually all the clips I have heard sound great 👍

That would seem to indicate the 87i, he also mentions the SK87 capsule, not a 67 or 670 capsule as used the ai. (AI as in it 87AIn't the same)

I had stuff delivered to the music store for years after I stopped working there. They guys would call me if something showed up for me. One time more recently, I had a friend hang out at my house while I at a doctors appointment so I would get my new amp, so I could finish mixing a record.

Ok cool to know it’s based off the vintage. Clips sound great. Is there a 87i vs Serrano comparison anywhere? Didn’t find much in YT.
I love all things 87 whether I or AI & would happily use either anyone ir many things. Is $3500 to much for the real, imo, yes. Used can be had for decent pricing but still 22-3000 is too much.
Neumann prices the 87ai new for $1899 I don’t think anyone would have anything bad to say about the mic.

Ok - let's see if I can get this to work. Quick and rough acoustic recording - signal chain Serrano 87 - Audient 8024 HE, HPF on, no EQ or processing. Mic with capsule down on boom lined up around 12th fret 12-14 inches away. Guitar Taylor 214CE - old strings (to go with the old fingers) - so kinda dark sounding here in the room. Caveats: I haven't played acoustic in years so the playing is pretty rough and sloppy, keep my nails too short to fingerpick effectively. Console currently in bedroom till I rebuild the shop ans create studio space so untreated room. Poor attempt at part of Steve Howe's Mood for a day. I'll try to add some more tomorrow if this works.

The mic sounds really good. And as far as the playing, it’s not like you picked something easy to us as a demo.

I dig the sound of the mic. Sounds really similar to what I expect out of my early 70’s 87.

Another clip - Serrano 87, Audient 8024 HE, HPF no EQ. Fingerpick intro then repeat with pick and then vocal. Mic inverted aimed mid chest about 16" away to try and balance gtr/voice. Singing was never my strong point, ok voice for backup harmonies - and I sing less than I play these days but know folks want to hear on voice as well. Hopefully this gives something to go by. I am hating that I had a temporary setback that caused me to need to hold onto some cash at the moment. I was intrigued by this mic and was willing to roll the dice on one. Well, now I know it would be money well spent.

Last clip for today - electric guitar (bedroom volume) room capture - about 2 ft from speaker. Just some unrehearsed doodling around.

gwlee - sorry circumstances kept you from getting one early. I don't have enough experience to accurately compare to other mics, but I'm really happy with the captures I'm getting. Glad that the clips are providing folks an opportunity too hear what the mic can do

I have been so fortunate over the past few years to acquire a lot of really nice things relating to music making and recording Having to wait a little while won’t kill me.

All riiiiiiiiight, everybody - I met Carlos today in Chapel Hill. Super, super kind and friendly guy. Had a really good time talking with him. I got the mic. I'm pretty busy over the next 4-5 days, but if I have a chance, I'm hoping to do something similar to last time with the Soyuz vs. Stam 67 thread.
Wanted to get you guys' thoughts, though: Would you like to hear the Serrano 87 compared to the Soyuz? Or the Stam 67? Or both? If both, then I'll have to use my interface pres, b/c I don't have three of any other pres right now. What do y'all want to hear?
