I'm telling you...this system has been rock solid for a few years now...but, ever since I applied the 6.07 (final) update for Cubase a few months back (remember the timestamp bug?) it has been randomly crashing regularly--defined by more than say once a month.
This morning, I'm almost done with a tune--go to listen to the lead gtr I did late last night to see if it's done and ready to mix...or if I need to play it again...and BAM--even though all the config files are still there in my user profile, Cubase has "forgotten" all preferences (which includes preferences, IO config, MCU set up and customization, etc)...and gone back to default.
Now, mind you--I had on the docket to do a Windows reinstall and go back to 6.0 after this project is done....so, I'm still gonna do that, I guess--and I've reset stuff up so I can finish...but, this is the maddening part of consumer OSs for recording...and why I'd pay big bucks to go back to a hardware solution. Obviously not HUGe bucks, else I'd just buy a used RADAR and an analog desk and rebuy my rack of outboard, but....days of hardware embedded digital are unfortunately over.
