Asked this on another thread, but wanted to ask on this one as well. Who is using these in VP28’s? Do you like the CA-0252’s better as a pair (2 x CA-0252), or paired with a 1731?

First Post here... long time lurker...
Starting off with a n00b question. I've got 4 x VP-28's, 2 x CAPI Heiders, 2 LC 25's on the way and 2 BT50's on the way. I've got 2520 and 1731's in the VP-28's, Red dots in the Heiders... the LC 25's I just bought on Reverb have 1731's in them and the BT50's I ordered from Resistance Audio (Thanks Matt!) are going to have the CA-0252's...
Am I okay to mix and match opamps in any/every order combination, and in any of these units I want to find my idea pure sonic heaven?

First Post here... long time lurker... Starting off with a n00b question. I've got 4 x VP-28's, 2 x CAPI Heiders, 2 LC 25's on the way and 2 BT50's on the way. I've got 2520 and 1731's in the VP-28's, Red dots in the Heiders... the LC 25's I just bought on Reverb have 1731's in them and the BT50's I ordered from Resistance Audio (Thanks Matt!) are going to have the CA-0252's... Am I okay to mix and match opamps in any/every order combination, and in any of these units I want to find my idea pure sonic heaven? TIA, -Joel damn man. Thats gonna be a lot of great CAPI goodness! Mix and match all you want. Find the combo and tones you want. |

It was two already built units. Paid more than normal since they are hard to come by currently. But… it’s just money, right?! |

It really, really comes down to this can you work with what you have? Switch some opamps and see is it worth it? I made (4) CA-0252 Op amps and put them in a Warm WA-412. The preamp was very usable before, but these made it a bit better. Punchier and bigger. I use them on snare and kick currently. I think I may like the Daking pres more but its a pretty slight thing. The Capi CA-0252 is a great Op Amp.

Reviving an old thread here…
So it’s time to replace an op amp in my vp28’s, right now I have a pair with 1731’s and a pair with gar2520’s. Ive honestly forgotten which pair is which in my rack but one of them appears to be going bad. So I figured now would be a good time to change things up.
How do people like am10’s in their vp28’s? I’m leaning towards those or ca-0252’s. I’m wanting which ever is most colored/most different than the “standard” gar 1731 or 2520’s. I mean why have 4 Pres that are exactly the same when you can mix and match, right?
Any suggestions in this regard?
Also, any here build op amps? I can easily find them on reverb but I’d rather pay someone here.

I can easily find them on reverb but I’d rather pay someone here. Thanks I’ve got a pair of VP28s with the usual GAR2520/1731 combo, but only single OA10 and AM10 op amps. If you’re not in a big hurry, I could reamp some electric guitar or run some mini line level signals with them in the preamp/fader stages later in the week. I haven’t done it before, but have thought about it in the past. Just have to slide the modules out a few times. I thought about going the Resistance Audio route when I was fumbling through building my op amps. Their prices are reasonable. |

Bumping this thread…just ordered a pair of vp26 pres with CA0252 op amps. Are people still happy with this combo? I was torn between those and the red dots but I just sort of went for it. Looking for a tone in between my Redd pre and my Lynx pres. The Lynx are obviously super quiet and clean. The Redd is the Redd. Has a ton of character. I think the CAPI will be a nice middle ground when I want that, plus ll have two for stereo stuff.
