Black Rooster had another Corona-Sale today and I liked their LA3A in demo time today I bought it for 30 bucks. Just for fun I took LA3A files form a German online review and compared the black rooster VLA 3A versus the real hardware file. There are just two little things I don't like about the plug in which they may get rid off in the future....
For the rest it sounds scary close to my ears. soundcloud.com/oberholz_music_berlin/sets/la3a

Haven't done any comparison but I went ahead and bought a few of the black rooster plugs. Tried the VLA3A and it seems to do the opto thing just fine. Sounds similar to my LA3A hardware clone. It's probably as close to the real thing as any clone will be.
I also got Magnetite but I'm finding it to be a finicky effect. It sounds good up to a point then it falls apart and doesn't sound realistic beyond that threshold.

I was a bit surprised about the outcome. Only thing that is a bit crazy with the plug in ... sometimes it reacts uneven, when the hardware is rolling steady like a train... suddenly the plug in reduces too much. I hope they get rid of this...
