I like it! You’re right - less of the port flavor and it’s a higher proof so it’s almost like a lighter spicier version. Honestly, after drinking the BH for a while I’ve kind’ve thought the proof feels a little low so this is a nice change of pace.

Wow. Actually this is really good. I let my tongue in-numb a little and came back.

Yeah kinda wish the BH was higher proof. But these are both great

Yeah kinda wish the BH was higher proof. But these are both great Thats a common complaint about BH products in general. But from what the brand reps say, thats on purpose. Lower ABV helps as an entry point into higher end 'sipping' whiskeys. More approachable at 80 proof. Even then I gotta say sometimes a lower 80 proof spirit is really welcome, even as a bit of a spirits geek. Not everything has to have the heat!

It helps their pocketbook when I can look up and be done with half a fifth in a night.

Just bought a bottle of the Bowman. Btw - I totally forgot the Larceny was so cheap. Oh dang! Theres also a traditional bourbon (Bowman Brothers) and a Single Barrel (John J Bowman) if I recall correctly. The Isaac Bowman is a little harder to find sometimes, glad you found it! I really hope you enjoy it, so I don't have to lie awake at night knowing I wasted your money Well these are nice posts to read!! Thanks!

Picked up a bottle of the Basil Hayden tonight. What does it go for in the US? About$55 here which is about $40 down there.
Cheers, Geoff

Just picked up a bottle. No expert here, but damn, it’s really really nice. The only thing I had that was similar is Angels Envy (port barrel), but for the price, this may become a staple. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the tip! I've already recommended this to John but- Try Isaac Bowman Port Finish... more akin to Angels Envy as its finished compared to having port added like the B Haydens. Isaac Bowman may be my favorite as far as drinking it more regularly. A bit less sweet.

I’ll definitely give it a try. Thank you! But to be honest, I kind of like the sweetness! I know that makes me a lightweight, but I’m ok with that, lol. I had to “learn” to even appreciate whiskey over the years, and I think I “get it” now, but I’m not above just appreciating something that is so dangerously drinkable, like I find the BH. Cheers!

Thanks for the tip! Have you tried putting a tiny bit of sherry or port in a glass of it, neat? It's quite the cocktail!

I think my tastes have changed. I know, I know…I’ve pumped it like a sta-level. But as I’ve sunk deeper into crazy bourbon (addiction), this one seems so sweet now. What a newbie I was (am).

Its for sure sweet. Unlike other barrel finished whiskeys, this one actually adds port to the bourbon. I believe it has to be less than 5% for labeling reasons, but definitely sweetens it. I probably already recommended, but the Bowman Bros Isaac Bowman Port finish is much less sweet, but still scratches my itch for a hint of that fruity richness port barrels can add.
