Ok, i just got back to my home in Carlsbad Ca last week, i was in the northeast for over 3 months, i sent some of my gear back(ups) to do a little recording, and i had it sent back home (usps) as well, the shipping cost me $205 with $5K worth of insurance, i packed the shit out of these boxes(as in quality, double boxed, tons of bubble and mesh tape everywhere), I watched them stamp my box as "fragile", i shipped a black lion digi 002, a C12 microphone clone, a custom built Schoepes mic w/beeznees k7, two samar loaded ribbon mics, a fluke V87 multi meter, my hakko 808 desoldering gun, headphones etc, in this specific box that arrived last night, i'm expecting another box today look at this shit lol(take note to the other packages in this truck lol, all they need is the samsonite gorilla in there 8), my hakko 808 is destroyed, lucky i didn't lose more with the open box, anyone have advise on filing an insurance claim on the USPS? Btw, i'm gonna take out stock in UPS, the USPS is gonna go out of business if this is their game...smh

When doing an insurance claim they'll almost always say that your box/tape/packing was poor or that the weight of the contents was too much for the box itself. I don't know of a single person who has actually received anything from USPS(or UPS/FEDex) when claiming damage. It's the biggest racket ever.

Anyway, if we waited to say anything nice about the USPS, we'd never talk about it again!

I had an international shipment that got damaged.
I got nowhere with the claim. Until I did a bit of hunting/ googling and found the VP of customer service's email. (Canada Post though). Things got moving after that and the claim was paid. Eventually.
Good luck with it.
Cheers, Geoff

The Fairchild was damaged by FedEx. They were more than happy to pay the $3800 repair bill over a full loss value being $24k. The hardest part was getting reimbursed for the shipping to and from VK but that finally happened, it just tool a while.
UPS was way worse in the STA claim when they damaged a unit I shipped to Nolensville. I will never use UPS again for anything of any significant value.
I ship all of my store orders with USPS. I have a monthly subscription shipping service with Endicia and also use them to insure all packages. I have had only a handful of claims and they all go very smoothly (knock on wood). I recently had one for $2400 that USPS delivered to an incorrect domestic location. They had a delivery confirmation that said they dropped it at the right place but my buyer said he never got it. They paid it out with no questions asked. I ship over 2k packages a year though so that is a ton of insurance money paid to them.

Thanx Jeff! well i guess we'll see how i make out, at least it wasn't the expensive stuff, a new hakko's a couple hundie. Anyway, you're not getting off that easy lol, i hardly even noticed what you said about the USPS, because my whore like gear lust could only focus on the fact that you said you got your fairchild fixed! So what is?.... how you liking it?

They all do this..... You should have seen the mixer I sent across country with UPS..... it was brand new basically when it left, when it got there it was completely demolished, and someone had driven a forklift fork through it, unreal. I took out a massive insurance agreement though, and me and the guy ended up making money on the deal.

It was one the first Mackie 32-8's they made.... actually had a really good sound, I took it to the UPS store, had them pack it, insure it. I mean the fact someone drove a forklift through it didn't give UPS much leverage, so it was a pretty easy process.
