I'm sure this has been asked before, but time for a refresh since something else is bound to have been developed since..
Anyway, I'm SICK TO DEATH of Melodyne's constant crashes and the dumbest, most backwards GUI ever made.. SICK.TO.DEATH. I'm just done with them. I'm not looking to argue. I'm not looking for folks to defend them.
It's time to look for something else out there.
What should I look at?

I trashed both of them ages ago and just stuck to using Waves tuning plugins for manually fixing off notes or flat sections here and there, and it sounds so much better. But recently I was working with an AC-Pop singer ( wiz did a peer review on it) and found actual Antares Auto-tune was needed, so I sent it to a buddy of mine who is a real keener with the AT and it sounds so much better than it used to. So I'm thinking of buying AT again now.

Waves Tune is pretty good. The Real-Time version has a nice GUI but limited functionality. It can work in a pinch. Flex Pitch in Logic is pretty cool, too.
Several years back, I was on the same search for an alternative to Melodyne, and concluded that nothing can really touch it. Maybe it's different now, but the workflow is so ingrained in me at this point that I'd really hate to switch.

I have the UAD version of AT and it doesn’t have the graphical portion - which makes it either where it works for singers that are close and don’t have weird turns or grace notes...or it just doesn’t work. I’m surprised Melodyne is crashing. I don’t think I’ve ever experience a crash in the years I’ve used it.

Have you tried Melodyne? Works great here on my Mac with Pro(fessional) Tools.
Try the veal.
Really though, smooth sailing for me. Maybe you need an update?

I have the UAD version of AT and it doesn’t have the graphical portion - which makes it either where it works for singers that are close and don’t have weird turns or grace notes...or it just doesn’t work. I’m surprised Melodyne is crashing. I don’t think I’ve ever experience a crash in the years I’ve used it. It's the only plugin I use that crashes. It's the only thing that's ever crashed Reaper in the 15 years I've used it. It just locks right up sometimes. The GUI for it also won't resize correctly and the controls are always off the screen and I'm always having to scroll the window to get to the bars to scroll Melodyne. That and the keyboard controls are mostly opposite of just about everything normal. I spent an hour last night tuning something only to have it freeze up. Everytime I hit save as a profile it takes up to 30 seconds to actually do something. If I try to close the window during that time it'll do nothing, or it'll freeze the program completely. If you're used to working quickly, it's ridiculous. Sometimes the detection will work, sometimes it won't. Sometimes switching detection will work, sometimes it'll just randomly switch back to default. Sometimes when I click on a blob it'll switch between corrections and I won't notice and I'll have to back out of what I just did, but sometimes when I hit "undo" it'll randomly undo everything I had done in the last few minutes.. or not. And I thought for sure it was just me and there must've been something I was doing wrong but no, there are forums full of fed-up folks complaining about the same things I've been dealing with for years. I spend way too much time fiddling with the program to make it work. It's powerful, but I just want to work, not spend half the time fucking around with the program. I could give a dozen suggestions to Melodyne and it would make the program unbeatable, but apparently they don't listen to their userbase.

I have had decent results with Waves Tune and Melodyne in the past. Both have kind of annoying work flows though.
Anyone like Nectar?

In before the obligatory “just sing in tune.” No fair--you saw me log in. I was going to chime in to make sure Svart has tried it via ARA. I mean the UI is a pile of shit...terrible...but, ARA makes it a more useable thing in Cubase than the silly transfer the audio BS in terms of workflow. I'm still not sure it SOUNDS better than the latest Variaudio...but...I'm not really an cork sniffer of tuning shit that wasn't sung in tune. I don't care how you put it on pitch, it usually still sucks. "sucks slightly less" is rarely my goal. That said--ARA or Stand alone or as plug in, I don't think I've had it crash on either OSX or Windows. But, I just demo'd it....

In before the obligatory “just sing in tune.” I was tuning DI from a guitar that was slightly pitchy..

I hardly ever use melodyne plug. I’ll comp a vocal, export, tune it in the standalone and then import back in.

I hardly ever use melodyne plug. I’ll comp a vocal, export, tune it in the standalone and then import back in. I do the same thing - probably from back in the day when that was the only viable option as it used to lock up PT on a regular basis when it first had the option to run as a plug. Print an instrumental, export what you need to tune and use it as a stand alone plugin. I’ve had some bugs with them in the past but nothing like you’re describing. I’d be pissed off too if I had to deal with that bs!

Reatune_ manual mode. Check into the different algorithms. It takes a bit to learn. I did make a preset to do the robo artifact thing, the stock algo is pretty smooth. I also find printing early on saves trouble.
