Has anyone here ever used any of these? If so, what did you think? They can be found pretty cheap, but I don’t know if they’re even worth trying or not.

My first 500 modules were Lindell 6x preamps. API-ish in character, good on electric guitars and drums. I liked them a lot, but sold them when I got my Silver Bullet (plus I needed room in my lunchbox). I still have and use a pair of 7x comps. They work really well, IMO. I don’t obsess over vintage tones, ADF, etc. If I want a comp that grabs really fast, that’s what I use. Lindell got me into 500; the price was right, performance good. My one caution is sometimes they broke. I had to send back a 6x for repair out of the box and after 5-6 years, the -15v rail went out on my 506 lunchbox. Of course, I bought early, so their manufacturing has gotten better. No problem with the 7x at all. I bought them 4 years ago. Mitigating factor: Rad Distribution was great about the 6x problem, and I even heard from Tobias Lindell himself at the time. So, it was all good. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy Lindell products less than 5 years old. Give them a try!

I have a pair of the 500 Pultec eqs (edit: Lindells, to be extra clear): one fried an opamp a year ago, and the other died last night, started fritzing... another module in the slot is clean as can be. Wondering if they’re even worth repairing, paid 160 for each or something. Kind of a drag, they sounded pretty good. Anybody want a cheap pair for repair and mod?

If you're in the states, I'll pay for shipping if you want to send them over, happy to give it a shot

Kilroy, I’d do that, but then heard back from Revive... I think I’m going to let them sort it out, and hot rod ‘em while they’re at it. They were quite useable, did the thing... curious what some tlc and some upgraded components might do for them. Worth a shot, I think. Anybody out there feel like shouting “by all means DON’T”? I would probably listen.

Hey Mark The long term opinion seams to be they sound damn good for the price, but in the long run you get what you pay for. Opamps that tend to blow smoke and switches and pots that get noisy.

Yeah, I replaced a round of opamps, but I’m afraid the sockets are compromised on that one, somehow, from the burnout. I’ll happily share what I learn from Revive when I get them back. In fact, need to send them, firstly...

On all of these bargain designs like Lindell, Alcatron, TNC etc. does Revive actually change the pots and switches that are so often singled out as the weak links?
(Yes, I get the caps and iron thing, but frankly I’m skeptical since it’s not going to sound vintage with modern caps and iron, it’s just not).

I’m unsure about that. I’ll post up when (and if) they’re modded about what I learn they’ve done. Much more interested in “effective and musical” than “vintage”. It’ll be an experiment, for sure. Not too costly either. Didn’t want to just bin them.

My little Lindell story: The year they first released the 500 series comp I bought it. But it was glitchy and never seemed to work quite right. I was busy at the time and just put it on a shelf for a few years. Last year I was going through a bunch of gear to decide what to keep, fix, or sell. I emailed RAD Distribution saying I knew I was probably way beyond any warrantee period, but I've had a Lindell comp that never quite worked right and could they ballpark a price to have it repaired. I honestly thought their response would be too much $$ to make it worthwhile. Instead they immediately shipped me a brand new one, no questions asked. And it sounds great!

RAD was good to me, too. So I’d say the US support could be a factor in your decision.
