Think this will be my next upgrade. Was considering Rme or Apollo, but this thing looks like a beast

The feature list looks pretty good. Why this over Apollo, though? At least to me, the main draw of the Apollo is not its interface features/qualities, but that it allows you to run UAD plugs.
I also find it funny that back in the day FireWire was touted as being necessary for audio over USB, and now not only is FireWire sort of disappearing, but we also have USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt, and yet manufacturers are now releasing USB 2.0 interfaces with huge I/O capabilities. What gives?

The ADAT connections on the side look like a bonehead move IMO.

The ADAT connections on the side look like a bonehead move IMO. The idea is that its a portable unit... not really designed for life in a rack.

This has the same converters as the orion32. I Like all the features on this.
Ive heard alot of people say the conversion and clock on the orion is better that the Apollo. I may be wrong of course. A fella I know uses both the Orion and the Symphony, and he reckons the Orion stands its ground.
Im not that fuzzed about the dsp in the apollo. Have enough plugs, and im sure UA is also great. But it will make me spend alot more money. Rather invest in more outboard.

I thought people weren't happy with the Orion conversion...I thought that was the knock...

I thought people weren't happy with the Orion conversion...I thought that was the knock... I've never used an Orion, or saw one, but the negative commentary is mostly around stability on the USB bus. But I'm sure there are happy users out there, somewhere. There has to be, Antelope would not release an unusable product, I hope.

the usb works well for a limited number of channels at higher resolutions, 24 @ 24/96k, i know some guys think the orion sounds great with that $6000.00 10M clock!!, mehh without it, of course YMMV.
I should say it is amazing bang for the buck, and the connectivity is frigging awesome!

For the life of me I'm trying to figure out why Antelope would create something with as much I/O as this, but basically short themselves by making it a unit that is supposed to be used out in the field. My only guess is that they have something else in the works, a version of some sorts of this that will be aimed for the studio. If it were me, I'd let it unfold and see how others are applying this unit. And I'd also see if Antelope doesn't put out something very similar to this but made for going in a rack. If I had to bet, the next show that comes around they'll be rolling out something around the same price with the same features that is made for the studio.

Yes, this new interface is tempting, much features for a good price....although have been eyeballing the Metric Halo ULN-8. Pretty curious to hear Zen in action....demo units available soon? And yes, the ADAT on the side is a strange move but if the connectors are firm, it might not be a problem even in a studio rack, regards, Nico

Hi, My name is Georgi and I work for Antelope Audio. I noticed some discussion about the sound quality and stability of Orion32 and since the new Zen Studio uses the same conversion and USB technologies I wanted to post a video where Jay-Z's live sound crew discuses the same topic.
I would not discuss the comparison between Antelope and UAD products as I do not see this fair to our competitor.
