I know these mics may be different beasts in design, etc. But for those who have any experience with any of them, I would love to try and find one really beautiful LDC to invest in that covers a variety of sources with an extremely excellent quality.
Would love to hear experiences anyone has had, you dont have to compare to the others listed; or if you have used all 3, which would you choose and why?

Don’t know about the Mojave, but the Bock and the Chandler are great. If you’re looking for a 251, I’d highly recommend the Upton 251 too.

Right now, really hard to beat the Chandler REDD! Haven't tried the Mojave. Used the Bock 251 years ago & thought it was great.

Good experience with the MA-1000, but it’s a bit on the bright side on the high end. Can come off hard on certain male vocals.

Used the Chandler REDD and thought it was nice. Although I didn’t like it at all on my wife’s voice. I want to own a Bock 251.

You haven't nominated it but you may want to add the Heiserman valve 47 to your list if what folks round here say is any indication, not to mention the Flea 47 / 49. Cheers, Ross

I appreciate the replies everyone, thanks! I have used the Mojave a bunch and definitely like it. It's borrowed from a friend and while it's an incredible mic, my comparison points are other less expensive mics so I'm curious, if dropping some money to invest in something truly spectacular, I'd love to have some other high-end points of reference!
If spending upwards of 4-5k; I'd love for something that cuts no corners in build and crushes male & female vox - but also just handles any sorta instrument tracking scenario with pure class. I recognize there will be small compromises, so vocals are the priority.

Hmmm... pop-focused mainly but that sorta spreads into country, rock, R&B, and others.

Don’t know about the Mojave, but the Bock and the Chandler are great. If you’re looking for a 251, I’d highly recommend the Upton 251 too. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ IMHO this then. Personally, I'd also take a bit of "small change" (relatively) then choose between an AA CM800T (Advanced Audio's Sony C800G version), UT 47FET, and/or Beyer M88TG too. Plus you'd have a great vocal stage mic, with the M88. Chris

Chris My experience with microphones in that price range like the Advanced Audio Mics, Warm, and even Peluso is that they are good tools, but lack the harmonic complexity of the more expensive microphones like FleA, Bock, Upton, Telefunken, etc. I'm not sure how the MA1000 compares to some other mics. Anyone know if they are using a true CK12 or a CEK12? That makes a huge difference.

As you spend more time with mics at various price points you realize “it’s all about the capsule “ to quote JK! The best advice I can give is spend as much time Beg Borrowing and renting what you can to find what works for you and what you can justify to spend. Try buying used so that if you find what you think you will like but don’t you can pretty much consider any small loss if you flip it equivalent to a cheap rental and learning experience. Ask BradD about how much renting a couple of hours at Blackbird with all the Classics and a decent ME taught him!

Man, that is a broad question!! These are widely varying microphones that offer completely different captures of sound. The execution might be similar between LDCs but the results vary! The 251 is one of the 4 giants of sound. AKG's C12, Neumann's U47, Neumann's U67 and Telefunken/AKG's ELA M 251 I would recommend going to a studio or a dealer and compare yourself or another singer on the various different mics you mention and evaluating the differences and decide what you are looking for. Also, what is your price range?

Don't know if anyone is a Trey Anastasio fan here, but he's been using the Chandler on all of his facebook livestreams the last few weeks. I think it sounds really great.

The REDD was a lot better than any 251 style (on me), and IMHO I thought it was more of an "all rounder" for a variety of voices-at least to my ear. Definitely more Modern, than the "specific gravity" of my taste-Which is the mighty U47! Then listen to Heiserman/Bock/Flea, before shelling out any big bucks for a Neumann U47/67! Chris

True dat. But, he can afford anything and chose the Chandler. He first experienced the REDD Microphone via Vance Powell, who’d brought his for a session together.

Appreciate all the replies. Yea I certainly intend to try and locate these in my area to demo (post social isolation) - but curious nonetheless about people's experience across a variety of sources...
Speaking of which, has anyone tried the Chandler Redd on instruments, or more specifically acoustic guitars?

FWIW...found out, for the new Phish record, they used four REDD Microphones, one planted on Trey's vocals for the album, the rest elsewhere; also a TG Microphone.
