This whole thing has brought a new factor in. I never realized how bad the censorship is there... merely making some youtube videos saying that 'the government sucks' will get you sent to jail or dead. And your family has no idea where you went. "shaming China" That is a whole other level of creepy. I hope this resets the corporate leaders and they move things home, the CCP is beyond dangerous.. 10 years ago they weren't a threat, now look. What will they look like in 10 years from now? If this doesn't teach us...

Are you familiar with the so-called "Spanish Flu" and its origin? As you can see, yes, this thread can go south fast. There's plenty of negativity around, I don't think this forum needs to partake on it. That was literally 102 years ago. I think our ability to trace the origin has increased in 102 years. And to be clear - I would blame ANY responsible party. It has nothing to do with racial/ethnic makeup.

I'm having a hard time understanding this thread, is the central question in some way related to the corona chrisis at hand? If so, in what way? Some of the comments seem as if China is directly to be blamed for the virus and people are therefor overthinking their purchasing decisions. Do I understand this correct or is there something getting lost in translation? I’m not hiding anything. Yes, China should be blamed for Covid-19. It is widely suspected that it was a bat disease being researched at the Wuhan University of Tech...next to the illegal wet markets that China refuses to close. On top of that, China had been illicitly recruiting scientists for their Chinese Talents Plan. Illegally stealing proprietary and intellectual property from the world to further Chinese scientific development. That’s not some kook conspiracy - that’s the TRUTH. You can see it yourself from the Department of Justice. www.justice.gov/opa/pr/harvard-university-professor-and-two-chinese-nationals-charged-three-separate-china-relatedI have nothing against the 99% of Chinese that live under authoritarian rule - but the rest of the world shouldn’t help their dictators enslave them. The US has been dumb enough to source items from China that threaten our own National security (medicine, rare earth materials.) This has and should be an enormous wake up call. Hey my friend before we go there we are not any smarter when it comes to bio level 4 labs: example there is one next to one of 2 the 2 hospital ER’s that were open in the Houston area During Allison and a AG research Bio level 3 across the Highway from one of the largest Pasta Plants in IA! Just saying we ain’t that bright! Hell I hate to think about what they are playing in the reaserch wing of any major Hospital! That said, I’m getting more and more selective and would rather support guys like Dogears and Hieserman or Steiger. The problem is when it comes to putting something together for a school or somebody starting out, on the low end it’s China or Nothing. Plus you have to look at What “ Made in ——-“ or Assembled in ——“ means here as well as other countries. The real question is what and how do we apply this approach to our non audio lives, for something as stupid as a blender ?

Even if there was some truth to this which I heavily doubt, then US should win an medal for making millions perish in the disguise of terrorism. There are no innocent parties here. US have a history of meddling in other countries affairs and rule by iron fist.
My point is that there is a war going on behind the scenes without average person (me and you) knowing. Don't take everything on the surface as face value and I especially donot trust the media propaganda machine. I still don't understand the mass hysteria/panic. Nobody is talking about how many have already recovered. we heading more and more towards a police state, I think thrr is more to come
But back to corona, nobody knows for sure whrr the virus came from and we will never know. But what it do feel like it's unnatural

I find that I am able to NOT participate with threads I don't like, 100% of the time. PLUS . . . I find I am able to block people I frequently disagree with or who get on like douche nozzles.
TRY IT! You might just like it!!
P.S. I'm participating in this thread because I AGREE with the premise and am trying to conduct myself in a polite and fair manner.

I'm just not going to allow people to equate any of the free world with a totalitarian regime. It's just not true.

I truely hope this thread isn't a sign of where this forum is heading.

I've been saying for quite some time that we've sold out our middle class in favor of the shareholders. This current supply chain crises is nipping at our heals and, if we don't force a majority of manufacturing back to our shores, it's not only going to bite us in the ass - it will devour us. That being said, I always buy local or domestic if possible but that's not a guarantee of origin.

Hey keymod - aren't you in New Zealand? I wrote a few songs with this eccentric guy 15 years ago...he was a chess grand master - super interesting guy. But he was railing on how "We don't make anything anymore - we don't manufacture anything in the US anymore and that's going to lead to major problems." It always stuck with me, but I was kinda like what the hell do I do about it? But I guess he was right lol.

With respect, if we are not supposed to get political, it seems we are?
Perhaps, we should focus on discussing gear?

I’m not trying to get political - and if it goes south, I’ll just delete. I also realize, that finding a piece of pro audio without ANY Chinese parts is difficult...but are you willing to pay more for non-Chinese made pro audio? In nearly all cases, yes. Has nothing to do with politics - just quality control and perhaps a bit of perceived cultural differences in the way people hear things.

To be fair, if you did that you should stop purchasing gear made in the USA, except maybe if it's made in the Bay Area. We've been doing a TERRIBLE job of controlling it in most of the country.

I only tend to have bought over the years either classic gear that retained it's value or new gear made in my country for easy servicing.
I. too usually tend to buy older used gear made in the USA, Europe, or Japan with certain notable exceptions.

Not certain, how we win this one ?
I am wondering how any of us know, unless we are doing the parts ordering for every piece of recording gear in the world, which one’s have no chinese manufactured parts?

Like I said in the beginning, there’s no way to NOT have some Chinese parts, but I will certainly become more discerning.
