I am thankful that I live in such a beautiful area. I can step outside of the studio and be immersed in nature. I'm also thankful for French roast coffee. Preferably Central American beans.

So I thought maybe in the midst of such trying times, it would be nice to have a thread dedicated to things we're thankful for. My idea would be to pick ONE thing that I'm grateful/thankful for TODAY. This could be big or small, music related or not. Feel free to write something simple ("Today I am thankful for peanut butter. It's a comfort food for me. That's it.") or something more involved. I've found over the past couple years that my mind doesn't naturally tend towards identifying these things unless I intentionally notice them. And if no one else wants to do this, that's cool. I'll start out by saying that today I am thankful for my Strymon Iridium. I'm thankful I sold my Kemper last Fall and got an Iridium instead. I appreciate its simplicity. I've been playing the hell out of it for the past couple weeks, and it's really helping me manage my stress levels. It's wonderful to play guitar during these times. Thanks for this thread Mark...You seem like a humble and gracious man - but can I just say this? I’m thankful for your son’s recovery. I know it’s probably not close to complete, but I’m thankful to God for it. I know a lot of people prayed for you guys, and more needs to be done. Wishing the best for you and your family. |

My cat died last year on brain cancer...miss her in covid lock down time.... So sorry to hear that. My old cat died a couple years ago from mouth cancer and even as a grown man, it was a really hard time in life for me. I miss him a lot still. After he died, I adopted some new cats but one has urinary disease and has had multiple urethral blockages in addition to having one of his legs amputated. He couldn't eat regular food due to the minerals causing severe bladder stones, but the prescription foods were making him so sick to his stomach he would vomit multiple times a day. His teeth were thinning and he stopped eating for the most part. He dropped from 9 lbs to 7lbs and his hair was falling out. I put him back on regular cat food for a few months and he seemed to be getting better but he had another massive blockage and had to go to the emergency room again. After that, the vet kept suggesting different foods, but none of them worked until we found this one food that has hydrolized (soy) protein instead of animal protein. The little guy has been eating great ever since and has gained weight and grown his hair back while he hasn't had a single urinary blockage either. I was at the end of my rope before we found this food. I don't know how much longer he could have lasted without it. i want to thank you for sharing this, svart. It’s so easy to interact on a board like this and not see the vulnerability of the person behind the posts. I appreciate you. |

I'm thankful that I'm (more of less) living life now with an attitude of thankfulness / gratefulness instead of bitterness and discontent. IMO, it's a much better way to live. And I'm grateful for it. Nothing specific today, just overall happy.... And I too want to thank "the other" Mark for the thread. <thumbsup>

I am grateful for all the virtual friends that I have on social networks. In these times they are so important. Reminds me when I started making virtual friends while beeing on year in major depression. Some of them I never met in real life, still they sometimes know more about me than my own family and friends around me. Others have become friends in real life when I had the chance to visit them, many life in far away places.
I am grateful for the 2 most important (ex-)women in my life until yet. Although we have no intimate relationship anymore, we are more family, than my relatives. Seems I am a lucky guy that did some things right and both relationships broke up for other reasons than loss of love, more on the classic tragical side of things ...
I am thankful for the happy moments between the catastrophies, that stay in memory and can never get lost (hopefully).
I am grateful for the energy I had today and that I could adjust one of my beloved basses to a really good action, so that it made me play for an hour while I just wanted to test it for a few minutes. I am grateful for all the music in general. So much talent in this world if you have the time to watch out and listen to new stuff open minded. A thing that really keeps me up while I can not play with the band, can not record our new album or jam with them on heartwarming levels of emotional intimacy after just one year of playing together.

Great Thread!!! I didn’t have time to read everyone’s post, so I’ll be back to read through them all. I am thankful for a loving God! I am thankful to have a place to live, and to be working right now. I am thankful to be able to have this forum with so many cool people that I can learn from and discuss musical interests. I am also very thankful to have a daughter that I can share my love of music with. I am also very thankful to still have my health. Stay safe out there friends, and I hope and pray that we can all get through these crazy times we are in, and come out of it more inspired and grateful than ever! Cheers to health, wealth(not meaning financial wealth-we are all broke because of this business or hobby-😁), and music! 🍺

I'm going to expand upon my previous post, and add that I'm thankful for this thread. It is entirely heartwarming to read of the kindness, love, friendship, humanity, help, and more, being exhibited in this thread. I am also thankful for John K and this forum. It's always a friendly and welcoming place, and I suspect much of that is due to him (and the forum members of course). I am keeping all the members in my prayers and asking that God will keep you and your families safe and well.

It’s been awhile since I posted in this thread. But here’s the thing that comes to mind today:  That’s my 1981 Raleigh Sport 3-speed. It’s a bit of an odd specimen: The steel body is all original, with no work done, the gear shift is a Sturmey-Archer, but the gear hub is NOT a Sturmey-Archer (which is what it would’ve originally come with). It’s actually a Shimano. I had one bike repair guy tell me a few years ago that he’s a little surprised it works. Anyway, it is far, far, far from perfect: it’s got some rust in various places, it squeaks in first gear, it’s heavy (being steel), and it’s not as comfortable as a new bike would be. (And seriously, it’s only got 3 gears!) But I love it. It’s just a feat of engineering. I mean, I accidentally left it out in the rain ALL WINTER this year, but it’s still going fine. I took it by a local bike shop on Saturday, and the guy inspected it and said, “yeah, you probably want to put some oil on the chain ($10) and a heavier grease on the hubs, but honestly, it should be good for, I don’t know, at least another 20 years or more.” This bike reminds me of the power of simple objects: Objects designed to do a very limited number of things, but to do them well with extreme reliability. We got Katrina a brand new bike with an awesome child seat for Søren a couple weeks back, and we’ve all been riding together almost every day since. We’ve had such a beautiful Spring in NC, with below-average temps and humidity, and it’s been marvelous to ride together. I’m pretty sedentary by nature, so it’s a really good thing for me to be moving. Anyway, I’m just trying to pay attention and be mindful of the good things in life. |

God's beauty and magnificence is a constant reminder to me to live in faith, and not in pessimism (which is my natural tendancy). We're all going to get through this. <<thumbsup>> Great idea Mark! I am thankful for the bottle of rum I opened this afternoon and that in MO essential grocery stores sell booze. I'm also grateful for both these things, as conflicting as that might seem . . . Speaking of which, I'm also grateful for the majority of folks here who tolerate me and can have disagreements of varying opinions without it turning into conflict. Most musicians (clients of ours for the most part) are so polarized, they pick who they work with based on their politics. I'm glad most aren't like that here! |

Agreed I think a big part of that is here we have a greater tendency to both let it go off subject and communicate out of the general chat. Many of us have met in person or spoken by phone as well. We don’t have to agree on much audio or otherwise we just have to respect each other and understand that sometimes humor can easily be taken out of context. Besides if we all agreed all the time JK would have to rename the place real sheep online. Now that could be taken the wrong way! |
