So I thought maybe in the midst of such trying times, it would be nice to have a thread dedicated to things we're thankful for. My idea would be to pick ONE thing that I'm grateful/thankful for TODAY.
This could be big or small, music related or not. Feel free to write something simple ("Today I am thankful for peanut butter. It's a comfort food for me. That's it.") or something more involved.
I've found over the past couple years that my mind doesn't naturally tend towards identifying these things unless I intentionally notice them.
And if no one else wants to do this, that's cool.
I'll start out by saying that today I am thankful for my Strymon Iridium. I'm thankful I sold my Kemper last Fall and got an Iridium instead. I appreciate its simplicity. I've been playing the hell out of it for the past couple weeks, and it's really helping me manage my stress levels. It's wonderful to play guitar during these times.

Thanks Mark!! Much needed. I'm thankful for the beautiful place in which I live and have my studio in. I can walk out the studio and be in awe constantly. God's beauty and magnificence is a constant reminder to me to live in faith, and not in pessimism (which is my natural tendancy). We're all going to get through this.  Oh, and I like my Iridium too!! <<thumbsup>> |

I’m thankful that theres nothing to do today except spend time with my wife and daughter, cooking food and playing video games each other.

Great idea for a thread, Mark.
I'm acutely thankful right now that finals are over and I can come up for air and spend time with my family where I'm not constantly preoccupied and stressed. I'm thankful that we're healthy and that we are able to handle the major disruption the pandemic has caused.
I'm also extremely thankful that for the next two weeks I can actually spend some time on music/recording. It recharges me in a big way and I need that. Next quarter is going to be another hard one.
Like Mark and drbill, I'm thankful for the Iridium! As I've mentioned in other threads, it has led to me just playing a lot more guitar and having a helluva lot of fun doing it. The simple joy of plugging in and firing up a pedal or three and wandering around the soundscapes is something I hadn't done as much in the last several years. I was always playing to get a track. The Iridium sees me plugging in to just...play. It's resulting in a lot of song ideas too, which are my most cherished commodity.

I am thankful that my wife and I both have jobs that are allowing us to work from home and still get paid. To go with that, we are in the position to actually be able help some of our friends and acquaintances out if it comes to that. We are very fortunate and there was a time in both of our lives that either one of us could have ended up homeless or destitute. I am grateful that I continue realize that and don’t take things for granted.

One thing is still being able to do "Distance Teaching", with my private students (Elementary School age).
(but we all miss each other!)
Silly for most (but you guys "get it")... But buying that Soyuz Launcher, before things "hit the fan" in Southern California.
Now I can record a vocal pretty well on a dynamic at home, a bit "fuller"/more "present" with it!

I think everyday through this I’m going to be thankful the internet is developed with video. I just have keep my kids from getting addicted. Normal stuff though.

This one is maybe a little silly, but TODAY, I am grateful that CBS All Access has a free one-month offer if you use the word GIFT in the special code section. Hopefully I can find time to watch all of "Picard" and "Discovery" over the next month. We binge watched Picard last week and will be starting on Discovery tonight. So many things to be thankful for but I suppose I'm thankful that I'm able to engage in music/movies/tv to allow my brain an escape from reality, if only for a few moments at a time. |

My old cat died a couple years ago from mouth cancer and even as a grown man, it was a really hard time in life for me. I miss him a lot still. After he died, I adopted some new cats but one has urinary disease and has had multiple urethral blockages in addition to having one of his legs amputated. He couldn't eat regular food due to the minerals causing severe bladder stones, but the prescription foods were making him so sick to his stomach he would vomit multiple times a day. His teeth were thinning and he stopped eating for the most part. He dropped from 9 lbs to 7lbs and his hair was falling out. I put him back on regular cat food for a few months and he seemed to be getting better but he had another massive blockage and had to go to the emergency room again. After that, the vet kept suggesting different foods, but none of them worked until we found this one food that has hydrolized (soy) protein instead of animal protein. The little guy has been eating great ever since and has gained weight and grown his hair back while he hasn't had a single urinary blockage either. I was at the end of my rope before we found this food. I don't know how much longer he could have lasted without it. |

Literally and figuratively, thank God.
My last kitty, lived for over 20 years. And was the first Pet, my Late Wife and I got together.
Part of how we got "Lucy", was that at the Pet Store, we almost got her brother.
Then we heard the story about how she was "returned from another family" (plus she was screaming inside her cage)
So-of course we took her to her "Forever Home".
I think about both of them every single day...

Today, I’m grateful that the shelter-in-place spurred me on to learn how to make biscuits back when this started. I just made another batch this morning, and I’ve been slowly adjusting my recipe to meet my personal tastes each time. This morning's batch has been my favorite so far! Having grown up in the South, biscuits were part of the fabric of food culture, but my mother never made them. It feels like reclaiming something that skipped my mother’s generation.

My dad had 13 (?) siblings, so they really spread around Nash County. They were very, very poor when he was growing up. Sharecroppers, more or less. My mom was from Edgecomb County. They were landowners, so a different class. I'll PM you. I'd love to hear more about your time there. |
