I'm not sure where to post this, so JK, feel free to move it to where you deem appropriate, I would think a Music Business sub forum is where it belongs?
My question is this...
Say U write and record a song, you copyright with the library of congress, u believe this song is going to be a gigantic hit, U are not currently affiliated with BMI, ASCAP, SESAC, U have no publishing, U have no file or hardcopy distribution, U have no record company, U have nothing but a song thats going to hit big virally, where would you start?
ok, so with this in mind, what would be the best approach to getting your ducks in a row moving forward in an effort to protect your interests? Aside from the obvious facebook page, twitter acount, webpage, soundcloud, reverbnation sites. i've heard of aggregators such as tunecore who get you on itunes, amazon, googleplay etc, then there is CDbaby(can you use more than one of these services?), from what i understand these guys also do the job of collecting royalties?(which i always thought was a job for BMI, ASCAP and SESAC), i've read that joining PRO's before your music gets popular is a mistake? etc... It's all pretty confusing stuff to wrap your head around.
Again, this is purely hypothetical, and assume full ignorance please 8), but this could be handy info for anyone of us creating art in this modern world, any insight to this seeming abyss would be appreciated.
Thanx fella's
