I watched some...the big "FU" to Prince -different guy singing the same 5 songs-and guys, USHER? Come on. #rollsOverInGrave)...that kinda turned me off...so, I bolted--missed Demi get out there and bleed. That's ok--I saw it this morning in studio with far better sound than my TV.

Hey, this was Music's BIGGEST night! (and also the first time in 15+ years I watched the whole enchilada) You know you're getting older, when you wonder if any of the "Single Mom's" of those singing gals, are cute too! Hmm... I'll have to re-watch the "Prince Tribute". Chris

Well (turning off my usual "Kidding Mode" for a moment here)... Alicia Keys IMHO was a wonderful host for the show. She upped it a couple notches. Very classy and a warmly genuine demeanor. The little ditty she wrote and sang, was the best performance there, that I saw. Having said that, some of the "routines" various singers chose for their performances, were WAY over the top. Would have fit in better in a SNL, or Living Color comedy skit. I'm "stealing" some of it, for more fun comic ideas, when performing live around Town. Just gotta get some good wigs-including yellow! As expected, the more "Country oriented" songs, were more down to earth. Other than one exception! I'm thinking "Montezuma's Revenge" would make a great name for a Latin/Country/Hip Hop/Rap/EDM/Rock/Comedy Band. Then I could get nominated in 15 Categories! (Yes-"Kidding Mode" reset) Chris P.S. BTW Dr. Bill did you like my concept for the "Silver Streak"? If it came out in Black, it could be the "Midnight Train". (cue Gladys and the Pips!)

I watched a recording of it. Glad I was able to fast forward through much of it. I know a lot of people complained, but I use to find it entertaining when they paired two acts (often an older with a newer) to give a broad audience some appeal for a performance. Other than the two performances with Tanya Tucker singing with Brandi Carlile on piano, Alicia Keys with Britney Howard playing guitar... they sort of moved away from this.
Did not enjoy most of the performances, sadly. But the ones I did think were really satisfying were from: - Billie Eilish - one of her better songs IMO and I've seen her do this type of stripped down thing before. It shows her raw talent and emotion. - Lil Nas X - not a high bar here since the Grammys had some stinkers of songs, but this was one of the few tunes performed that has a banger sing along chorus. I don't think it's country, but that doesn't matter. The sets thing was fun. He's not a great singer, but if the song works I'm usually happy. - H.E.R. the whole thing was fantastic. I don't have the album, but I should. Second time seeing her perform and she's talented. - Bonnie Raitt token tribute for John Prine's lifetime achievement. Heard it a million times, but she's still good at it. - Gary Clark Jr. with the Roots was great. I think the live production was a little rough, but they still pulled off a good showing. - Lizzo was alright. I think she's doing some good things, but somehow just don't connect with it at all.
The Spanish singer Rosalía was a bit interesting and totally new to me. Not sure I'm loving the autotune in there, but I get that she's trying to modernize a traditional sound. The outfit she had was not very good, but the lighting and dancing, etc. was pretty well done.
Aerosmith/RUN DMC was pretty bad, and I liked that version back in the day. They've just lost the juice.
Tanya Tucker sounded really bad. Most of the other stuff is just generic pop in my eyes. I don't get the interest in Tyler the Creator. He's not a very strong singer and yes, he's pushing the artistic direction of rap, but I still don't hear a strong chorus or a reason to want to hang with it.
I'm really surprised they didn't have Yola. That album is killer and she'd appeal to a wide audience.

It’s offensive that Aerosmith kicked their drummer out of the band, and then took a giant dump on stage. I have no idea what that was... but obviously none of them can play in time, play the right notes, play with each other, or sing for that matter. Total $&@“ show. They should be embarrassed.
I have no idea who the performer is that was rapping with Boys to Men. At first I was thinking... wtf is this? And by the end I thought it was one of the most powerful performances I’ve seen in years.
I really wish they would concentrate on more than just the pop/rap side of the awards. Lots of people I appreciate and look up to won Grammys last night and they mostly went ignored. It’s a shame.

I totally agree on the Joey Kramer thing. Also I thought Tanya was fine, given the overall performance bar. Chris

All the typical old-people complaints. I couldn't understand his words. Too much distortion. LOL But really, you're supposed to get the message of rap in the vocals.

Haven’t watched since the big scandal years ago when they figured out the ST Louis Symphany was wining all the classical awards because they had gotten all their supporters to join the academy and I realized how many old guys were just voting for the name they recognized.
