I'm ashamed to say that after 15 years of using pro tools, I still know very little keyboard short cuts, i just mouse along slowly with little patience to learn and memorize. But I was looking at this www.avid.com/US/products/Pro-Tools-Custom-Keyboard-Mac im re thinking and wondering if it's worth it? any users/advise appreciated thanx T

Get it man.... totally worth it. They have them on Amazon for a really good price. That and a Logitech Trackball like Pensado uses sped up my editing time by a ton.

Speaking of which...Is there a way to change the keyboard shortcuts? I'm sure this is as easyu as opening up the manual...but hey - if someone knows. Now that I'm down to one monitor, it would be nice to have something like "ESC" act as the mix/edit keystroke...

Command + = too tough? Haha Actually, I find that a little clumsy...I mean, that's what I use, but it would be nice to be able to not have to look down to do it. Say - like have ESC be the key...

You can make custom shortcuts, for instance f19 for me hides clip gain. I learned it from a pensado ITL. I would google Pensado ITL keyboard shortcuts.

Now that I'm down to one monitor, it would be nice to have something like "ESC" act as the mix/edit keystroke... PT doesn't allow changing key commands like Logic, and I'm actually kinda glad. Once u learn the PT short cuts, they work everywhere in the same manner. In the PT manual, there's a list of all of them. I copy/pasted from the the ones I wanted to memorize from the PDF to an excel sheet and left it on my desktop for weeks until I could remember them all. Def a time saver. Also, Quickeys is a great tool for creating custom shortcuts and macros. I have many... one in particular is to select "save copy in", choose 24bit, 44.1hhz, include files, etc, hit enter, then remove the "copy in" words so just the song title exists with " - insert today's date" following it. Anything that I do often which requires multiple steps, I make a shortcut quickey for. Works in any app... in finder I have a macro for "insert file (usually an mp3) into an email, use title of file as subject line, return to address line...

You can find here on how to make a quick key for PT. This is how I switch from Pre-post fader monitoring, Clip Gain line, etc. Just makes it quicker and easier IMO. support.apple.com/kb/ph3957

I tried adding a keyboard shortcut - to just use a ESC or another "easily findable" key - but it just "donks" away when I try and select something. I think it's not allowing me to use the ESC because it's already assigned. Or maybe it can't be a single key...I'll try again. That's a great idea for pre/post, Jerome...Little things like that can be sped up so much...
