Hey all, I just ordered a pair of these bad boys. The look really flexible and similar in a lot of ways to the API 2500 and 527. Paul Wolff, the designer of the 2500, even designed these. Feed back/feed forward mode. Side chain. Blend. Variable linking. All seem like pretty nice features. I'm planning on popping them mostly on drum buss, but hoping the flexibility allows them to work well in tracking and other phases of mixing, when necessary. Looking forward to taking them for a spin.

I've been curious how these compare sonically to the 527s. Def way more flexible. Can do a lot more with these Tonelux. Sometimes I wonder if I should have just got these instead of my 527s. 527s aren't nearly as fast. Love the 527s for loads of stuff, but for some duties they are just not fast enough. I don't think that'd be the case with the TLs.

More flexible (in theory) and less cash. I'm hoping they smoke.

Need a channel comp and I'm looking at the tonelux, a pico 502 and jlm la500 - for mixing synths and samples Haven't had the chance to try the other two but recently built an LA500 from the kit. Easy easy build, and for the money I think it's unreal good. Sounds smooth and big. I will surely be getting a second to pair it up. If you are comfortable soldering then the LA500 kit is a NO BRAINER.

To updates almost a year later, these do indeed smoke. They smoked enough for me to sell my API 2500 and keep these on my drum bus. If I had gobs of cash, I would fill a 6 space lunchbox with these. Really flexible, nice compressors.

Just a point of order, here... In any compressor discussion, it is important to know the compressor type and identify which one you are talking about in relation to any compressor. Opto VCA FET Vari-Mu As the main 4 types of compression we use.

All you need is one...then another for stereo linking on your drum buss...then another for kick...and another for snare...maybe one for banjo...definitely one for kazoo.

Hey Jesse, I make use of all 4 types of compressors in my work. I definitely like VCAs on kicks, FETs on snares. Opto on guitars, vocals and vari-mu to the Opto/FET bastard cross-breed of an LA4 on bass. As for 2-buss? Definitely VCA. The Focusrite Red-3 is KILLER in this application.
I will definitely check out the Tonelux.

While you are at it, try the Great River PWM 501's. If you are looking for versatility and solid build, they would be hard to beat. I have to admit that Paul's past rants on facebook have kept me from purchasing gear from his company. I let my wallet do the talking in the case of Tonelux.

Not the kind of ranting I am talking about really. I would explain more, but then I would start being just as guilty of it.
